This song emerged as a performing troupe of international students at Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa searched for a name for their group. Each student came up with a word in their language that had meaning and they ultimately chose “Sahayta”, the Sanskrit word for “helpfulness”. They were then inspired to take the collection of powerful words and turn them into a call-and-response song. Sahayta now features words meaning peace, joy, unity, cooperation and oneness in ten different languages (Filipino, Hindi, Mende, English, Sanskrit, Arabic, Hebrew, Damara, Spanish & Swahili).
