Sahil sir I started my investing journey from Jan 2022 since then I have committed only few mistakes as I started learning about stock market since 2016. My mistakes: 1. Invested in any IPO thinking that I would gain 100% if shares are allotted I ended up losing more than 50% of my IPO investment but apart from that I have no other losses as of now. 2. I invest 95-99% in equity hence I face liquidity crises often and I am forced to sell certain good stock to regenerate cash. Apart from this I don't have any mistakes as of now all of my 12 stocks are bluechip and all are at green, for small cap and mid cap I prefer to go with mutual funds as I don't have high risk taking ability now. My mutual funds are also green and I often buy them at small dips to average down. Also I was nominated as one of the finalist of Eastern Zone for SEBI organised quiz in International book fair last year, my mentors are Vijay Kedia, Saurabh Mukherjea, Akshat Sir, Pranjal Kamra, LLA, and You. I am glad to share that your video on piping stock was best for me I selected a stock (not Prince pipes) and currently have 65% notional profit on it, I follow you since then but I only buy after my conviction. I do not think we actually need so many Blue chip companies. One is enough, and most of these companies won't go that high. Although right time to put in all these was 2-3 years ago for eg:polycab, KPIT

Hi Sir. We get to learn a lot from your experience both from your videos and community updates. So let me thank you for that. Your video motivates me to share few of my learnings, and I feel just mentioning them on a public platform will help me stay strong and avoid them in the future as well. 1. My biggest mistake is actually my limitation. I dont have a very strong nerve to handle market ups and downs. So I have developed this mind hack. I stop taking deep dives during extreme market volatility. I have noticed our will power and judgement gets weak if we are tracking the markets too closely. Thats why I shift to the bigger picture during such phases. I pull up 5 year, 10 year graphs and focus on those trends. I shift my focus to macro factors rather than micro ones. This really helps calm my mind and it gets easier to handle the nerve. 2. I have been a victim of analysis paralysis in the past. Sometimes we go so deep into the technicals or the fundamentals of the stock, that we miss the general image or the public sentiment of the public towards that brand. Sometimes it really helps to keep all the knowledge aside and see the company as a layman would. Our day to day experience when we go out. For example we go to our grocery markets, and we also notice all the shops and offices on our way to work and back,. We also notice all the bill boards and banners. These can act like an excellent double check on the companies we are investing in. For eg, there is this bank whose branches have been shutting down lately in my city even though it looks great on paper. But then its stock has been falling over last one year and I was wondering why :) I will share another example. Last year when the whole US stock market was going through a correction, one stock Celcius holdings was giving extra ordinary returns. It did come up in my search multiple times, but I didnt even try to see what it does. Yet that same year I had started liking this so called fitness drink and was really impressed with its taste. It was also called Celcius and it didnt once click my mind that it could be the same company :) The company has more than doubled since then. Though I recently found out that its the same drink that I love :) So sometimes just a day to day layman idea about what is happening around us can give very good hints about businesses. This layman approach has helped me find some of the best stocks in my portfolio (though I do filter them based on technicals). Though I am a bit superstitious. The moment I share those names with my friends or family, whose portfolios are not doing that great, suddenly those stocks start nosediving. There is some truth to the concept of jinxing and being an educated man, it really bugs me badly :)

Hi Sahil.. Very nice video and I too admit that i did mistakes 6 and 7 very often..I did have once in my Portfolio Indian Hotels, Britannia, RVNL, Titan, HAL, Zen Tech,L&T Zensar, Tata Power, Ultratech and many more and exited early with lack of patience or getting handful of return and touching ATH and not knowing the further potential, Sold off early and then didn't have chance to re-enter in the stocks as Fear of fall after reaching ATH...I didn't enter in Options yet nor having enough knowledge of Options of CE or PE and Greek meanings like Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma etc. I am still in learning phase in Equity cash markets and gradually overcoming the fear of losing out.

My mistakes : 1. Buying stock on an intraday bull run on MTF setting option as market price, nowadays I always set limit price 2. Avoiding bluechips 3. Avoiding good stocks because it recently concluded a bull run (persistent) 4. Getting emotionally attached to shares and then selling then too early before their next bull run (Eicher) 5. Avoiding a stock I lost money on earlier, even it has good fundamentals

Very well said. Basically you have covered them all. It is important when you learn this. In my opinion there are three kinds of people....1. Self-made who learn with hit and trial. 2. Smart men who learn from other's mistakes and 3. Majority of them who never learn. Try not be in the third category. One more thing, if you Want to make multibagger returns and you have conviction in the stock, there is only one way to make money...do not sell at 5x, do not sell at 10x and don't sell at 100x. 3rd mistake I have done , sahil bro suggested newgen software share, fundamentally string, multi bagger, but when I took , it fall 730 to 300, more than 50% loss. But I hold tightly one year and averaged it. Now I exit with huge profit 40% , sold at 800

I got a very good peice of advice in my initial days of stock market journey in 2020..."Give yourself time to see at least one cycle of a bull market and another one of a bear market". I have made some mistakes since then but I was fortunate enough to have seen both the cycles in the next 3 years....long way to go ahead though...but the advice has stayed with me...needless to say i have learned a lot from Sahil too...loads of gratitude man🙏.

I have been in stock market for around 3 years, first 2 years my investments didn't exceeded more than 1 lakh rupees though i had around 15 lakhs in my hand ready to invest, i lost around 6000 by buying and selling in wrong times today I think I have developed a good amount of patience and fundamental analysis because from past 3 months i have increased my portfolio to 4 times with 20 percent profits in just 2 months only, i still have the obsession of profits booking if the stock reached to more than 50 percent, i did this with polycab, pakka, hbl power and i shamelessly bought them again after selling them 😂

Hi Sahil, appreciate that you transparently shared your mistakes, so that others can learn. In my case, poor selection of stocks without doing any study was the biggest mistake and also the greed. In addition to the mistakes you shared, I would like to share one mistake which I did. That is whenever I lost money ( 80 % of the time I lost ), I used to stay away from the equity market for the next 5-6 years and again jump in when there is a boom...it was very silly way of equity investment. Now I am holding 5 equities with an investment of 3L each. What is your recommendation ( about no of equities) if I want to invest 15L.

Hi Shreeram, I've been investing in the stock market since 2015. I'd say, the number of stocks in your portfolio should be a factor of your risk profile and not the amount you're investing. If you have 5 stocks, the probability that none of them perform well is significant unless you have done in-depth research AND bought at reasonable valuations. On the other hand, if you have more than 20/25 stocks, it becomes hard to keep track of their growth stories and even if you find a couple of multibaggers, your overall portfolio may not do very well due to lower average allocations. It's a fine balance. It's your choice.

I Did Average Down In Wrong Stock To Think This Will Out From My Portfolio Only When I Average Down But Average Down Not Work Because When I Average Down Share Again Below My Average. So My Learning Is First You Have To Understand Which Stock You Have To Average Down And The Answer Is Who Fall Because Of External Reasons. My banking colleague suggested bcg as a long term multi bagger stock for me. when i entered it gave me 80% returns in 2 months. I started investing more and used 30% of my entire cash position to upward average it thinking the stock will go to high levels without properly researching about the fundamentals of the stock. Currently i am at 80% loss. Even though my other stocks are performing, this single stock is the soul reason my portfolio is red. Never ever will I diversify more than 5-10% of my portfolio to a single stock

Hey Nandu...I had similar experience for BCG. As per my colleague's advice invested at 28. Then averaged out at 10 rs making net average 20. Then when it went 35 again added some due to greed. And now you know the situation well 😂😂

Hi Sahil - had bought the metal stocks (Tata Steel, Hindalco, SAIL and Vedanta) at inflated levels when the commodity cycle was at its previous peak. Had been at a loss since. Now with the gradual peaking of the cycle, I sold half the quantities of these stocks at my cost price (so no loss) having realized the invested amount in this sector was way too high. Now am happy with the balance except for Vedanta where I’m still at a 40% loss. May have to sell this at a loss as am not convinced of it’s long term prospects.

Sir those all are scraps please sale all are go for stocks like Astral... Apl Apollo... Polycab.... VBL.... HAL.... Bajaj Finance... LTIMAINTREE.. LTTS... if you wants to have only large caps and if mid caps and small caps are also ok please let me know I can suggest you for your studies. Sry if my reply is offending

My biggest mistake is not to build up on bajaj finance when i first bought it @ Rs200 before split and bonus.. i had found ny multibagger but couldn't build up strong position in it.. which could built huge wealth for me.

Tatachem, adanient, Tata Motors, BSE, KPIT technology, ICICIBANK, LT, And so many more sold with minor profits. And stocks like Jindal SW and around 15 more stocks sold in huge losses in last three years. Anyway not giving up and will continue the investments with lessons learned.
