Emotions can be at least 2 things: the "what system" or goals -- need to fight/flee/feed/fork. The model/intelligent engine is more the "how". Withing "how" is the expectation or very often the negative expectation of outcomes (when mountain climbing, you want to get to the top, you fear dying by doing it wrong).
