Erica ends up flying home to Colorado unexpectedly, leaving me to sail and anchor the boat by myself for ten days. While alone aboard I take the time to finish (and start) some projects that I had been putting off for a while.
I outline how I set up our water collection system, as well as rebuilding our headsail furler, which is one of the toughest projects I have encountered yet!
Thanks for following the adventures of WE!

Hey i'm sorry for Erica's loss. I pray for GOD to comfort her. I like your inventiveness on the anchor windlass. You should patent that. They should come with the boat with that on them. Your ideas will be remembered i hope when i ever get me another sailboat. And thank you for the update and showing us what you did with the water system to clean the rainwater. Awesome

First!So Sorry for ya'lls loss. I was very lucky in my life to have my Grandparents around into my late Fifties. I learned so much from thim. And of course all the Fun too. So again So Sorry. Now! Trick No# 5. When you work on the Roller furling again, take a Umbrella and open it up and place it under your work spot there. That way when something falls like Bearings, bolts, screws, etcetra, It will Catch most if not all of those parts. Oooo and tools! So you don't lose thim. Ok! Thank you for this week's video. I know it was a hard one to make. So Thank you again. And until next week, Aloha from your friends on the Big Island🏝 of Hawaii 🏞🍹🍻

So sorry for the loss, but what a long life! It's the people in our lives that make it worth living. I'm sure that you have a lot of great memories and hopefully those will help get you through. The furler looks one of those things that's easy to do on a bench with all the specialized tools. It's like you're trying to rebuild a transmission without taking it out of the car. I would try the same thing, but probably be less successful.

Brilliant solutions! Love the chain scatter drum and the pump for the rain water. Killer. Sorry the furler was a PITA. Maybe some Corrosion X for those rings? I bought (finally) a good set of ring pliers. I don't use them often, but when you need them... Erica, so sorry about your grandmother. But, 100 years! Something to be joyful about :) Take care and safe travels! F

Wow, that anchor chain jamming wood gadget fix is going into my playlist "sailing technology cruiser help" as its amazing. So many many people have that problem which is actually by too shallow of a chain locker,boat manufacturers saving money cutting corners.. I apologize, it will be at the bottom of the list until I go into it and organize it a bunch more. It is a huge playlist. It has some things on Furlers. It actually looks like you may be in trouble with that furler now. Comes apart like a hand grenade is what we repair people say ! They have bearings inside and are hit with salt water a lot, and I don't think there is an easy way to add marine grease to most of them. I also recommend a tension gauge for your system, as your changing it, and probably would like to get the rig back to its original tension ? Also, tension gauges show you when you experience changes that the cat might have bulkhead problems. Good Bulkheads are what will keep you alive on a Cat. Rotten ones will show with your rig changing, and other symptoms, and can cause the entire boat to "fail". And it can happen on any boat made by any manufacturer. Oh, and every boat owner should have a 6 piece set of crescent wrenches and a couple of torque magnifiers for the set ! And should store them in a plastic bag with oil inside of it. Possibly two of the "giant" crescent wrenches because they are great for rigging, torque magnifier for each one. I think you'll end up removing that furler regardless but I'm not to the end of the video yet.

New Zealand is open to cruisers. The Wynns are here and the old Sea Dog. They have done refits here and are currently touring the coast of NZ. Being that we are the largest boat owners in the world on a per capiter bases you won't have an issue with parts.
@californiakayaker
@californiakayaker 2 жыл бұрын
They were only open to folks who were going to do fairly massive refits and could almost prove that they would be spending a large amount of money on the refit, at least that was what GWTW's had to prove. I think Old Sea Dog got in before things changed.

So sorry to hear about Erica's memaw passing at 100! What an amazing life. My condolences. My god mate, pull the boat into shallow water in case you do drop something into the drink. Well done with the repair...I would have grabbed the blowtorch about 9AM LOL You both should watch The Sailing Family and their experience in Bora Bora and the repairs they had done in Fiji, which were surprisingly top notch. They have an amazing CAT but took some heavy damage when their mooring line broke in Bora Bora and the CAT drifted away and smashed into a pier (moorings are Government controlled and argued about who was at fault). Thank god for the heroes in Fiji who repaired their boat. Here is the episode where their boat was damaged kzbin.info/www/bejne/in_WlWesZbSlbbs
