😃Mads is SAILING!!! I followed your channel faithfully about 10 years ago, but I eventually drifted away after about 5 years of boat work with no more sailing... I'm SO glad to see you got Athena and yourself back to sea. Yay!!!

Ah that brought back memories. I cruised the Exhumas back in 2012 with my friend for 3 weeks on his 36' Benateau. Miami to Bimini down to Staniel Cay. A wonderful trip for my second time on a sailboat. My profile pic is from that trip swimming on the sunken DC-3 at Normans Cay I think. I would love to go back one day. Thanks for the throw-back and enjoy your time there Mads & Ava.

I used navionics on a trip from the DR to Florida. I was not sure how accurate it was but the boat only had the western Caribbean chip in it. I was able to use both systems once I passed mayaguana and while I was nervous at times with the depths, the navionics did not steer me wrong. The berry islands are surprisingly shallow in places. Draft was 4 1/2 feet.

Coming from a land with the highest incidence of melanoma and other sun exposure related skin cancers in the world, sun screens are your best friend and very, very cheap insurance. You won't see the results of excessive sun exposure for many years. Enjoy and stay safe.

I've seen too many folks in their 40s getting pieces of their butts grafted onto their noses. My friend aged 34 died from melanoma on his back. Left 3 children under 10 with his wife and no insurance!

In a story that features both blowholes and iguanas, there is a semi famous blowhole in the Galapagos, where if you wait long enough, you will occasionally see one of the many marine iguanas of the area get caught in the current and be blown up and out of the ocean through the blowhole. Not sure how the little critter does after the adventure but you have to believe it’s quite the shock.

I acutally like that raster charts gets pixelly when You zoom in enough. It represents the accuracy of the underlying chartdata better than a vector chart. A cector chart is seemingly accurate down to the meter, where as the chart data actually isn't. A raster map zoomed in and pixelated warns You in a very intuitive way that You might be here, or somewhere around here.

Raster charts are typically a scanned image of a paper chart that has been georeferenced, sometimes quite poorly. Vector Electronic Navigation Charts tend to be more interactive and provide data on various features to the mariner. I can't speak for third party electronic navigational companies but in my experience as a hydrographer, international HOs are getting away from providing raster charts in favour of the vector ENCs as they're considered more powerful and flexible.
