What an elegant way to visit my home port. Well done- and, on the 4th of July! My great Grandfather was the Commander of the USS Constitution (Francis D. Gulliver) during the last restoration. He was in charge during the bi-coastal trip (under barge) & was called a 'sot' by the President at the time! Hahaha- not such a historic family tree. Great video, lovely vessel! I mean the H-R 54 "Cloudy Bay"! of course.

Spectacular!! VERY nicely done to the two of you! We now hope to make this same trip during the 4th of July! The videography was spot on with just enough narration to allow natural wonder and self indulgence :) cheers mates and fair winds~

Glad you had a nice trip through Long Island Sound. My home waters. Looks like you also timed Hell Gate perfectly. It a "Hell" of a slog for those who don't. :)

Hi there. With the approaching hurricane, would you have any advice where to seek shelter in Long Island sound, should it come this way?
@NYWaters6 жыл бұрын
I rode a glancing brush with Hurricane Earl in Three Mile Harbor in East Hampton a few years ago. Holding is good and lot's of room if things start to drag. biankablog.blogspot.com/2010/09/goodbye-earl.html Mattituck is also a snug spot with very good protection from the winds. Anchorage is small but, good holding mud. There is also a marina which might be a good alternative if there is no more room in the anchorage. Stay away from the Connecticut side problems with surge and more rocks around.

Hello. I see that the fishing rod is always armed, but the fish never bite? Your videos are beautiful, and even your boat. Greetings.

In the Atlantic and around the islands we caught quite a few fish, and all are on our videos. But also the problem with line fishing is the weed and debris in the water. For every one fish we probably caught 10 lumps of weed!

Great video! What kind of bicycles do you have? Do you recommend them for cruising, e.g. resistance to rust? Thanks.
@SailCloudyBay6 жыл бұрын
They are “Gocycle” folding electric bikes. Look up gocycle.com. On the positive they are simply fantastic to ride, with wheel spacing of a normal bike, chunky BMX tyres, and for a fold into bike, extremely ridged. The electric hub on the front with take you up even steep hills. They fold very small. Down side is they are quite heavy ( due to battery) damned expensive and operated by electronics which of course will surely fail one day. Especially if related to a boat! The main pieces are pretty corrosion proof. But we have noticed, after 2 years, that some screws and bolt show corrosion. But I’m sure any bike on a boat would suffer. My bad for not corrosion protecting them from new. My wife loves riding hers .... that’s the big plus! We just did 40 miles today on Martha’s Vineyard and only used 1/2 the battery.

Great video! What type of camera do you use? And do you use an extra mic for sound or just the audio from your camera? I notice you have little wind noise problems even while under sail with your cam :)
@SailCloudyBay6 жыл бұрын
Florian we are using a goPro6. Yes we were having wind issues but have now got the mics covered with fluffy wind-noise reducers. Much better now. Checkout our latest videos. But you are right, I think it’s time to buy an external mic with fluffy-cat.
@florianpeek98806 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your answer :) and I actually ment I think your sound is very nice already :). Have a lot more wind issues myself so I was wondering how you reduced it so much. So I guess its time for me to get some fluffy wind cat thingy :)
@SailCloudyBay6 жыл бұрын
Ah ha .... yes I mid read. We are so used to people complaining about wind noise in our videos .... we have never had a compliment about it! Yes, with the small fluffy things on the GoPro housing it makes a lot of difference. The GoPro automatic wind reduction is good, but when it activates in strong wind it does seem to give our voice-over an echo sound, like we are talking inside a drum!

Thanks for the tips (ordered a Gopro so I guess we will see how it works for us :) our sailing channel is sailingeastofthesun by the way :). Really like your stuff. Especially that you often don't use any music, minimal commenting etc. It's very nice to see the real experience like that. Actually inspired the concept of this video a bit :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHnFnniwgMafjZo Have a great day! :)

Several sailing clubs and just a lovely community away from the hustle and bustle of Miami You should sail down afternoon hurricane season. We have the best winters in the world. Good sailing..jim

@SailCloudyBay6 жыл бұрын
Thomas, you betcha! The buggers are EVERYWHERE! but we only managed 1 around the prop. They rather take the joy out of sailing in Maine. I just don’t understand how they are allowed to place them even in channels and even among moorings. Clearly Lobstermen are a breed unto themselves. We couldn’t complain about the lobsters thou ... delicious!
