Some incredible sailing in those strong winds. It’s impressive how stable and steady your boat is in such conditions, she truly is a blue water craft.

We couldn't agree more! She's a very safe and forgiving vessel that looks after us well, as long as we keep looking after her. It's a symbiotic relationship.

Loved this episode - exciting and informative. I’m very much better informed about ‘snubbers’ now, thank you Tony!

Wow those winds were crazy! 😱 As you know we definitely know what it feels like to just have to sit on the boat and work on projects 😂 the drone shots are stunning! Glad you guys are safe!

We are just smashing out those boat projects in solidarity with you 😄 And thank you, we were pretty thrilled with the temple shots, but it was so beautiful it would have been hard to do a bad job!

Loved the video. We just did our first season sailing Greece in our Dufour last summer. I had to learn to chill in anchorages. Had so many boats anchoring on top of us - even in an empty anchorages - you throw up your hands and give up. And then you have some captains just learning who are ignorant of scope or proper anchoring techniques. If the winds are going to be low overnight - just chill. If not, you cross your fingers or move. We upgraded our anchor to a proper size Mantus and bought more chain. We do use a bridle but when the winds are howling we keep an anchor watch (more to keep an eye on other boats) and use an anchor app on our iphones if we do go down below. Still trying to find the best one as we have had false alarms which does get the heart pumping. Regardless, welcome to Greece!

"You throw up your hands and just give up" is very relatable! We do ask (politely - hiding any signs of annoyance) that people reanchor if really needed and just explain why. This time, we were preparing to leave when they anchored over us, so something needed to be said unfortunately! They were fine about it which was good. We have been on anchor watch once or twice as needed, I think our sail to Sardinia episode shows a bit of that. So far we have found Anchor Pro the best anchor alarm! Not had any false alarms with it, and have set up a device onboard so we still get any alerts when away from the boat, which is massively reassuring.

Nice video....re: anchoring tips, if possible do not share the same roller between your snubber and roller. On our sailboats I have always used the other roller (we have two as do you) for our snubber line. Not sure if this is possible on your boat but if so it will go a long way to preventing chaffe. We also sleeve the lines where they run over the roller with flat nylon tubular webbing. Doing these two things, I have never experienced chaffe. The second line tied on was a good call. A fisherman's bend is an incredible knot and will hold through just about anything. Cheers and tell Bryony thanks for the help with my thumbnails!

Hey there! We do indeed have two rollers. Tony tried it on the other roller, buuuuut the roller doesn't roll currently due to some corrosion, so after we get a haul out and sort it, that's the plan! You're absolutely right. The flat nylon suggestion made us smile (our next episode will show why... it got a bit scary!), we now have tubing for the snubber because, yes... chafe is not good 😅 tubing was easier for us to get, but nylon is certainly a great option too. Thanks for the knot suggestion, we will give that one a shot next time 🪢Tony has seen it but never used it, so we will have a go at it. And you're more than welcome! Bryony loves making thumbnails, so always happy to support.

Anchoring: Taking an elbow is bringing two ropes or chain or chain and rope from the anchor and taking one to the bow and the other to the stern crossing the boat in the wind, for this you must have a very male Anchor like a 25 or 30 kg Mantus

We have done some research and found a diagram/video on what you have described. It makes a lot of sense for heavy weather or just general comfort! Thank you 😊

@@CutterboveSailing ok there is also the cat's beard anchoring variant, 2 anchors at a distance of 40 meters between them making an equilateral triangle 45⁰ with respect to the bow

How die you Connecticut the snubber to the chain ?
@CutterboveSailing

Hi! We have a metal plate that acts as a chain hook, and we connect the snubber ends to cleats on either side of the foredeck.
