I learnt a lot from your decision to turn back in Katrina the dinghy because of the seal. "Caution is the better part of valour." I would have probably thought I could have made friends with him and come to grief; just as on 13/05/1986 I thought I could push a tyre out of the gates of a sluicing lock! Beginner's luck! I've still got my arm! I shall have watch more of you Sam, to get rid of my almost literal sense didnt-get-beyond-Tower-Bridge complex! May the patron saint of sailors always be with you, Sam.

Those Hurley 22s are just amazing little Yachts and while changing the anode on my 22r.. I was amazed at how thick the hull is!.. I will be keeping her at Pin Mill soon..

It has been a great adventure to watch with you. Can you offer any advice on planning and getting the time off work to do this amazing trip.

Speak to your employer, explain what you want to do. Get a true plan on time scales and how long you're likely to be off for so they know were they stand in terms of your time off. If you plan on doing all of it in the same year be prepared to take unpaid leave. A trip such as this should be seen as a personal development and less of a holiday but thats my opinion.

The Hurley 22 is probably the best little budget boat for this type of cruise, well done Sam not an easy sail .

I spent a *lot* of my childhood there as we had a mooring just near where you are there. We also have one of the boat houses with my uncle Sam. When my mum was making dinner me and my brother would get into the dinghy and row over to Cuthbert's Island (with a really long line on the dinghy when we were little) and then our parents would call us back from playing on the island when food was ready. It's a very special place in my heart, although we did spend a lot of time bobbing around feeling sick on those moorings looking longingly at the shore but unable to row over because of the weather. 😉

Great film thanks Sam..You really got it bad on Lindisfarne and to make things worse you didn't get fish and chips from Whitby, a huge error if judgement!..Hey ho..

Lovely to see Lindisfarne from the sea. Years ago I was into calligraphy, celtic lettering styles and the Book of Lindisfarne was high on my list. Nice you escaped the worst of Betty. Much damage back along Irish coast around Rush

Great video... Thanks for posting. I've found the little ecoflow brilliant for small scale off gridding! The small Lakeland rice cooker works great with it and Ideal for cooking other things like pasta... It will also boil a small 300w kettle on about 12% battery 👍

They are great units, with a 100W solar panel it becomes a very efficient source of power for ancillary sources onboard and on a sunny day fully charged in 2-3 hours. I like the setup of keeping the onboard batteries separate for the critical systems like VHF, navigation lights, sounder tiller pilot, although I try to keep the use of the tiller pilot to a minimum.

Really enjoying your videos Sam. I hope you realise how much they are appreciated. Particularly loved where you were holed up at Lindisfarne as it can be typical of a sailor’s lot! You are a good story teller. Teacher by any chance? ⛵️

Do you trust your CQR anchor? I had one and it dragged at night on Muck. When I got back I immediately bought a 25kg Rocna and I've felt safe ever since. Bill

The CQR has proven a good performer, i've got a swivel to the chain which I think helps, was most concerned at this island as winds were up to 30 knots along with strong tides.

Great video and an exciting trip you're taking on. Can I ask, what dinghy are you using. I've got a Seago 260, wood slat deck. It's quite heavy for me moving it from vee berth and inflating it in cockpit to launch a d recover over the guard rails each time.

Its a 2.3m tender by 3D, this has an inflatable deck. Very light easily carried and comes in a bag with shoulder straps. Thanks for watching 😎
