It’s never boring, this life. Way to keep your wits and keep your options open. Being ready to pop the main and head to open water as your bail out seems like the play we would have made, too. But AV is a nice big spot to shoot for, so making the attempt to get there seems like I’d want to do, too. 🤙

Ya. Luckily my gamble played out and the motor didn’t overheat completely pushing thru the swells and head on blow. I’m glad it wasn’t night time after losing all power 🤦🏼

Appreciate that you include even the parts that are less than stellar. Good reminder of the power of nature and that our vessels can at times be a bit fickle. Nice work, Captain!

Agreed-Best thing to do in that circumstance is to fall off downwind...might even try to ease let the jib back out to gain control. If that doesn't work work...just hope she holds as she did! Glad you didn't shred her...especially a brand new sail! Nice work...though stay calm and radio for help to get into calmer waters...Smart sailing!

One thing you could of done is gone downwind, greatly reducing your apparent wind speed. Then somehow pole out your mainsail to possibly create a wind shadow for the foresail. Not sure this would help, but might of been worth trying

I think they call this a sailing shit show. Been there my friend. You did great talking it out with crew and preparing for Plan B just in case. My favorite part of those days is a big glass of Scotch and a cold beer. Then laughing that it wasn’t all that bad. Ha ha
