if possible : try to change the roller to a simple but small jib this will avoid you from having to reef the main in most cases. A reef in a main takes away half of its efficiency as you can no longer tune it. A full main also supports the rig a lot better. it turns a decent larger sail in a much worse but smaller one. the end is the combo of 2 badly set sails ruining their job to assist each other. when you sail solo, more power in the main and less in the job allows you to have more "throttle" in your hands. so more control can be applied when needed... and a well trimmed main with small jib will allow you to point ( get closer to the wind) when a puff arrives. and be more powerful when you enter a lull. as it is now, your mostly in a sub optimal configuration at 70% of the time... ?

Nice save after a disastrous tack. Staying out of the trees is always a win ;-) I wonder why you didn't try to tack again. Too little forward motion?

@@TheEvertw yea, i hesitated seeing that huge wind, then attempted to just jibe but i admit, i lost it a little and panicked, so it was all a learning curve, i should have just tacked thru it and dealt with the gust after, i was heading up a somewhat sheltered path and the lake opens up, sometimes the wind is funneled at that point i was already thinking it was too much so yea, its another lesson in boat handling for me

Get some classes before you get hurt or damage your boat… I appreciate the enthusiasm but there’s too many things going wrong in this video.
