I've just caught up with your videos. Really good. You have a nice chilled, 'no hurry' style - so the boat name suits you all down to the ground. I plan to do the Med in the next two years or so myself. I had planned to skirt the more southerly parts of Croatia, but after seeing your films I will definitely do the north as well.
@Expedition_Tranquilo7 жыл бұрын
Definitely go north, most yachts don't but they're missing out.

How is it working out with your hydrogenerator? Is it producing enough power or are you having to run the engine as well to charge the batteries?
@Expedition_Tranquilo7 жыл бұрын
We're currently not using the hydrogenerator as we're in marinas at least every fourth day and we can charge back to 100% overnight. The marina stays are not particularly our preference but with the deep shorelines in Croatia we have little choice. The hydrogenerator will come into its own in the ocean crossings.

Love your videos. Hanse 455 is a beautiful boat. What is your initial impression of it? It has no compression post under the mast inside. Instead Hanse used composite materials in construction. How stiff is the hull, are there any extra noises under sail? Can you record noises inside and show video while sailing?
@Expedition_Tranquilo7 жыл бұрын
Hi Igor, it is a beautiful boat, amazing handling, but she is light so tends to slam into waves unless you actively steer her with them. And yes no compression mast is unique as far as we know. So far even in strong winds there is no noise from the compression mast or hull. If anything, the best thing about our Hanse is the hull - still and handles well. It's the components that unfortunately let her down, as we've had trouble with the depth sounder, the aft head pump, the USB charger, and a perspex window in the aft head came loose and smashed a hole in the floor. The most troubling is the depth sounder, and we're having that replaced by Navico this week.

Commander Aiden is really exploring the nautical world. Congratulations Captain Aiden. Every place on this planet of ours has an extraordinary beauty. Fil, out of curiosity, I noticed that when entering the channel, in Luka Telascica, the starboard signaling float is red. In Croatia is the system adopted IALA B? Another curiosity. El, what is the temperature of this water? You and Kalena are well suited. The water must be really, really cold.
@Expedition_Tranquilo7 жыл бұрын
Well picked up Anselmo, that was because we were technically leaving 'harbour' and heading out to sea. Water temperatures were 20 at the time we filmed, they are warming up as we head south.

Wonderful, I love following you. You are now part of my planning to live on a sailboat. They are reference to my plan. I'm also curious, have you ever lived in Brazil? Please, disregard my mistakes, because I still ask Google translator for help.

Great videos from Tranquilo in Croatia. Question about Aiden - if your trip goes beyond a few months, are you home-schooling him? How old is he and what grade is he in? We have an 8 year old in Grade 3 and are thinking of taking a year off... maybe more ;-) ... so keeping up with his education is one of the unknowns. Would love to hear how you are managing this topic.
@Expedition_Tranquilo7 жыл бұрын
Hi Fred, Aiden is 8 years old. He is doing Distance Education, which is the same program kids far from school, like farm kids, are enrolled in in Australia. Distance Ed sends us a semester's worth of school work to a prearranged location, and we supervise Aiden as he completes it. Every fortnight we send the latest work to Aiden's teacher who marks it and provides feedback. Having the specified content provided by Distance Ed works well.And best part is Aiden, always a relatively confident kid, has become even more confident.

What a beautiful place. Seen pictures of the same areas but HD Video really brings it to life. Giving Aiden a job piloting the tender is smart... he will learn a lot. Kids growing up like this I feel become really responsible young adults and learn much more vocabulary and how to act around adults than their peers than many interact with other kids their age. Its a trade off for sure but one well worth it.
@Expedition_Tranquilo7 жыл бұрын
Definitely Bob, Aiden's becoming very confident in sailing and interacting with the locals!

Great video, thanks for sharing. I understand that having your credit card fraudulently used really sucks, best of luck and having that get sorted out quickly. What's with the comment; "America, of all places"? What's that supposed to mean?
@Expedition_Tranquilo7 жыл бұрын
Cheers Jeff. Regarding America, the credit card happened in Europe so it was strange to see the fraudulent transactions buying from American companies... would have thought they would have bought locally.
@reynaldneron90127 жыл бұрын
Hello Tranquilo, please teach your kid to attach the kill switch of the tender engine on himself when driving (and you have to do it too of course). The injuries are horrific if this is not done. Here is an article which I hope will convince you of how important that is... www.rya.org.uk/knowledge-advice/safe-boating/look-after-yourself/Pages/kill-cord.aspx
@Expedition_Tranquilo7 жыл бұрын
Trust me it was a heated discussion.... Aiden's starting to reference the RYA books - Comp Crew, Day Skipper - so expect next time won't be a problem.
@reynaldneron90127 жыл бұрын
Ah ah ah, I have to remind it to my crew every time as well, but training is important. On internet, you can find pictures of injuries made by a propeller on the back of someone who fell of the tender... If you can show that to the young man (be careful, it's disgusting to see), I am pretty sure he will not forger the kill switch anymore... fair winds.
@Expedition_Tranquilo7 жыл бұрын
Reynald, you'll be happy to hear Aiden now uses the kill cord all the time!
