Hello guys! I started following you about 2 months ago, and I am now watching your past videos from the start of your journey. I was raised on the water. I live in Maryland and my Dad always took me and my brother out on his sailboat in the Chesapeake bay. We still go out, he has a 38 foot boat that he sails between Maryland and Florida. I really wish that I could be doing what you guys are doing, but I chose a different path being I decided to start a family. I have a thirteen year old daughter that needs my support and stability. I just wanted to say how great it is that my daughter and I can watch and vicariously, be a part of your journey. I hope that when she gets older, your adventurous spirit influences her in life.

I never realized how close Hawaii is to Alaska, much less that the ocean current flows south along the western US coast. Thanks guys!!

I cant help but think you have heard of the Kon Tiki expedition with Thor Hyrdal (forgive spelling). They were cruising on a balsawood raft! You will sail past Vancouver Island at some point.I will wave a hand your way! CHEERS from CANADA

Watching RAN Sailing is such a welcomed period of relaxation. Your voices the explanations and the moments of humor, ( I guess we’ll have to eat some 🍌) are all so welcomed . I know you’re in Alaska now so enjoy the northern most state and come ashore. When I was up there the people are very nice.

10:46 Thank you! I had wondered why you left from Costa Rica instead of further north instead, on the map, it looks like it would have made for a better trip. But with this explanation of the winds, it makes much more sense now. Also, I'm surprised you didn't get another tow-prop since the last one was lost. well, this was of course 3 years ago... I'm still catching up, looking forward to seeing the rest of your journey.

Fantastic video again folks. All that stress involved with the preparation before you departed Hawaii eventuated in nothing...so, DON'T STRESS...it's no good for you! From what I have seen of you on previous videos, nothing that happens to you seems to be a big deal...always capably dealt with by Johann and Malin, as usual, well done! Happy sailing on the next leg of your adventure.

I was reminded in the recap at the beginning of the apparent water damage to the underside of the deck above where you had fitted the new heater. I hope this isn't anything to be concerned about. Hi Malin and Johan. I realize that it is not in your plans, but do you think a boat like Ran could sail through the Northwest Passage in the summertime (to reach the Atlantic)? Also, I do understand that you intend to visit B.C. and hope that you will stop by in the Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands) and show us that.
@RANSailing6 жыл бұрын
Yes, it’s absolutely doable in a boat like Ran. A friend of mine did it some years ago in a 31 ft grp boat! 😀 Cheers!

Wow, so quickly. Fair winds, its not a typical trip. I know your probably there by now but I'll look at the weather in my Pacific...ok, I do see a nice wind path if your going directly north and then swinging east to Kodiak. So, if that wind stays it will be perfect That said, I'd hate to try to get to California right now, or anywhere on the west coast. Wind blowing right at you. 8/10/18 Michael (aha, wow, Petersburg ! )
