Sailing in Paradise: It's a lot of work! (Ep. 22)

Sailing is WORK, lifting sails, adjusting sails, reefing sails, coiling lines, etc. etc. This week, we leave our beautiful anchorage on Tahiti and head to Moorea. This is a sailing heavy vid...watch us from start to finish sailing our beautiful Shannon ketch, the Queen Jane.

We are Kate and Jordan. We are exploring the world's oceans on our sailboat. We are slipping away from the everyday world and off on the blue sea to experience and see the world from the water! We have lived on our boat for 24 years, we sailed around the Pacific from 2001 to 2006 with our son until we had to head back. We lived in SoCal for fifteen years until we retired (yeah, we old) and now, we are headed back out!
We focus on the beauty of what we are experiencing (the ocean, the islands, the nature), our challenges and some of our day-to-day but not too much.
Our boat is a Shannon 50 Ketch (57 feet from tip of bowsprit to stern). We bought here in 1999, completely redid her - new mast, new electrical, new plumbing, new engine, new sails….EVERYTHING. We kept the woodwork inside and sailed around the Pacific. Then, in 2019, we started a second major refit. New standing rigging, pulled our masts and repainted them, new electronics, new batteries (lithium) and charging system, new radar (AIS), new solar panels, new refrigeration/freezer system with a rebuilt box with new high-tech insulation, new sails, new generator, rebuilds on our autopilot and water maker. Then we bought a new rib, new outboard and mountains of spare parts. NOW - we are out here living the dream.
