Omg, I have just discovered this channel, and... Yer another Amel Supermaramu 2000 !!! There must be the most common model of bluewater cruiser featured in KZbin channels ever

Yes, we think this is for good reason too. Before purchasing Island Pearl II we had owned and sailed six other well-known sailing brand boats, but we take the safety of our family, friends, and crew extremely seriously, and since our circumnavigation also included the wild and unpredictable Indian Ocean (north and south) plus a Cape of Good Hope rounding in September (ie very dangerous not the safe Dec/Jan season), we did a heck of a lot of research into what would be the absolute safest and easiest sailing boat to complete our "big lap" in, with some single-handed ocean crossings potentially required as well. From this research, we came out with the Amel Supermaramu 2000 53ft yacht as our chosen option, followed closely by the Amel 54 which is slightly faster, more stylish with much nicer lines to look at, but unfortunately for us lacked the same easy to deploy downwind pole system which we must have used at least 90% of the time around the world. Today, if we were to start another lap, and this did not include a Cape of Good Hope rounding, then the new Amel 50 would be a serious contender too as it comes with so many of the features we added onto Island Pearl II as standard plus more direct from the factory, and is a faster better upwind boat but still with the underlying precision, strength, quality, safety features and outright cruising boat brilliance of Amel yachts.

Well done Colin, Ron, Julian and Julia! Thank you for making these great videos so we can share your trip and see what you are seeing.

Hi Austin - yes, I'm sure it was a bit surreal! It was quite amazing to be able to have video calls from the middle of nowhere in the Indian Ocean, and lovely to be able to speak to Audrey from our deserted island! J x

Hi Julian, I suspect your crossing to the Cape will be somewhat less idyllic but much more spectacular. Look forward to seeing you in CT

Very professional production. Just as I was transported to another place it was very weird to hear my mother speaking from Oadby!!!

Hi Alan, good morning and a big thank you for all your kind assistance with our hypalon dinghy repairs and life-raft re-certification. We have got so busy that the videos have had to take a back seat for a while. Next video will be on Chagos followed by Rodrigues. Best regards Colin

Good production. Have you got two dinghies?
@sailingislandpearl6 жыл бұрын
Hi Norman, apology for this late reply. Yes, we have a nice small 2.7m hypalon dinghy which is our normal "go to" dinghy when it is just Lauren (my wife) and I on board, but when we have more persons, and are going to be somewhere for longer then we use the 3.0m aluminium dinghy which can take many persons and/or large loads of provisioning or fuel. Not ideal really to have the larger one up on the front deck, but it is certainly an awesome dinghy with a 30hp outboard and we often tow it behind us in smoother waters, for example we towed it for over 600n.miles and two months solid cruising throughout the entire Maldives country, even in larger seas.

Sailing Island Pearl Thanks for the response.👍 Looking forward to more videos - have you got some in the pipeline?

@@normanboyes4983 Hi Norman, yes we have now reached Cape Town so have a huge amount of awesome videos in the pipelines on most Indian Ocean Countries & Islands, but this will take us a lot of time unfortunately as we are terribly slow at getting these out due to so much sailing and touring. Next ones will be on Chagos and then Rodriguez....
