Best way to check how much gas you have - Pour hot water down the side of the Propane cylinder and run your hand up the side - where the temp goes from cold to warm is the level of liquid in the cylinder.

A pro tip for those oil changes is fire up the engine for 5 minutes or so to get it halfway to operating temp. Especially sucking out 40W oil, it will expedite things greatly. Another plus side is it helps agitate the oil, so the crap that settles to the bottom (which you can almost never suck up), might be dispersed through the oil better. Oh, and putting one of those absorbent pads down on the engine before pouring in the new oil has saved me many a minute of trying to wipe up oil from the nooks and crannies on top of the motor. Good job on the projects guys, she looks like she's nearly ready to roll.
@drewj.16546 ай бұрын
Another pro tip is to not bother with pre-filling the filter. Literally zero need on this engine. It'll get there when you fill it up.
@MYNautiGirl6 ай бұрын
@@drewj.1654 Agreed, I would never bother on a side-mount engine, as the manufacturers know very few people are gonna try to get 15W-40 motor oil in there and be able to get the filter on without dripping it everywhere. Even on my Crusader 454's I don't bother filling the massive vertical mount filters.

You might want to suggest to Marty a remote oil mount for the Yanmar.. There are also remote oil pumps, especially if that is a ex-charter boat with a genset, you can set up the pump to empty the oil from the genset (which on those frenchy boats is usually in the stern area somewhere hard to access) to pump out the oil after warming it up and removing the oil filler cap so it's done from one place. Quality of life and reduces boat yoga. And always practice safe oil changes by wearing gloves. 😎

Hi Chris, If I was to purchase a yacht and needed you to show me around, and perhaps help me with an oil change etc, much like you've done in this episode, ... 1. Do you do this as a standard part of the consulting package? 2. Would I have to sail the boat to Puerto Rico near where you live for you to be as hands on as you are in this video? Also, wishing you a safe journey and successful delivery! Regards - Pete
@ChasingLatitudes7 ай бұрын
Hey Pete, yes it's part of consulting, if the boat is local, if not then people normally hire me as a delivery capt for them and then I teach them everything about the vessel like you see in the video
