We are now in the PACIFIC. Can you believe it? (We can't). It's really interesting to stop and think about the journey, the goal, our happiness and others. Whats the reason you travel?
@deerfootnz8 ай бұрын
San Blas is nowhere near as nice as much of the South Pacific. Don't waste time in the Galapagos islands either, they are quite avoidable. The Marquesas and Tuamotu are special. Spend as much time there as you can. You can do the western South Pacific after a cyclone season in NZ.

Interesting subject...the "journey"... Lao Tse says that the purpose of a Journey is the journey, not the goal. Because when you reach a place, there's always another place to see. By being focused on the "goals", we have two counterpit: 1) we live in the future, not in the present time... 2) we oblige our mind to find something "missing" to be able to set a goal. This is, obviously, umproductively stressful 🙂 Plus I suggest you wach yourself as we did FROM THE BEGINNING! can you hold all together what youìve done ever since? Time does not exist and there is no "way to happiness: happiness is THE Way!" (this is Buddha🙂) Keep soaring your delighful, yet challenging dream! We're with you! AUGH!

I watch 1 channel that took over 6 years to finish their circumnavigation and they are going to continue sailing as that is what they enjoy. Very nostalgic seeing Panama as it is today. I remember driving in the mountains of Boquete with a friend with his VW beetle in 1975. The islands connected to Fort Amador were deserted with only a narrow causeway connecting them. We used to jog out and back several days a week.

Becka, I understand your thoughts about moving on, staying put, circumnavigating. I equate it to all the people that set off for a 'LAP' of Australia, which is a thing in Aus. I see so many people get to a spot, set up their caravan, have a Q quick look at the sights from their camp and then move on the next day. They seem in a rush to get the trip done because their are so many places to see but they miss , in my opinion, they whole idea of what it means to travel. You need to live in the moment and go as fast or slow as your feelings dictate (other than moving for weather etc). I like to soak up a place and stay longer in some spots than others. It's the journey and not the destination. I've enjoyed your travels so far and look forward to seeing the world thru the eyes of the Teulu crew at your own pace

Hi Teulu. Loved the Spider at 6:04. Great footage of your journey around Panama City. As for your closing comments... 'SV Delos' are on their 'Second Circumnavigation', but are spending an entire year in French Polynesia, just kicking back and enjoying life with their four-year-old daughter, Sierra, before moving on at a slower pace than they did the first time. On the first round, it was Brian and his brother Brady and their respective girlfriends, but after several years, Brady and his new girlfriend had other ambitions, so quit before they reached Panama. By then, Brian and his wife had their new baby and their whole outlook on life had changed. Currently, Brian is looking at another boat, because 'Delos' is very old and no longer meets all their needs - too many compromises. See their latest video Ep. 450 - with Sierra growing up. 1000 days since you left the UK. Wow! It seems like only yesterday. Fair winds, Russ.

I have a new found respect for sailors after this weekend. The wife and I finally got out on our own for the first time. Predict Wind totally lied to us and made for a sporty first time out. As you say the goal is not to be pressured into completing the circum nav, but to keep exploring unitl you feel the need to go no further. Yes its an achievement, but will you feel fullfilled.

Maybe I missed it but did you find dye for your sheet line, saw the black line. Concerned about the dye effect on the rope depending on the chemicals in it. Not much load on it though. Surprised they didn’t tell you the breaking strength. Any case google is your friend for future lines of which I and others usually have at least 3-4 extra, like oil and fuel filters! Hope the rest of the prep goes well.

Funnily enough, last Thursday I was coming up the hill with one of my neighbours (from Germany) while they were fixing it, but they hadn’t yet rollered it to compact it, and we got stuck, wheels spinning wildly, chucking up gravel everywhere. She was freaking out a bit, since we had her two young kids in the car, so i offered to try and get us up the hill. I eventually discovered that I could get a grip (it was not a 4x4) in reverse, and then reversed it 1/2 mile up the hill.
