Lovely to see Large again - sailing as beautifully as ever (can't believe those stick-on boat names have lasted 30 years!)

Such sturdy, fast and reliable boats. I crewed briefly on a Rival 41 in summer of '85. Southampton down the east coast there. Portsmouth, Weymouth, Falmouth, Devon, Salcombe. That Rival went on to cruise all the way to Thailand and back via Alaska to Annapolus, MD before she was sold.

Very nice, I wouldnt just clip onto the top guard rail though. Best on a strong point, or back stay in my view. J

Sailing well with some good breeze behind her and a windvane to take over. Scilly a handy destination for you, lovely place. I still have my Rival project, also about 25yrs now, progress still slow, I find something ready to sail every year. I blame it on the internet.

That Mr Passmore's old boat ? 😎 Lovely.

Yes. I purchased her from John 26 years ago. What a legend he is. John passed her on in great condition but since then I’ve got new sails, new engine, new standing and running rigging, I’ve rewired her and replaced some instruments. But there is still a lot of John Passmore left in Largo.

Just subscribed so I’ll be waiting for more Rival videos please! Love the rival and would love the 32 or 34 but for now I’ll just have to make do with my Trapper 500!

Nice movie. Always feel safe in mine. (Ocean Sunrise) My nephew recently uploaded a movie of our transatlantic in her. All the best. ⛵️

I loved your video. I always thought 3 people on a 32 would be a bit of a squeeze but it seemed to work well.

Nice video but clipping on to the guard rails will not stop you falling overboard where you will drown. Clip where if you slip your tether will keep you onboard and not in the sea. Sail safe.

Nice trip and well done on sailing solo. 👍. Just a few observations to help you be safe. I noticed that in wearing your life jacket the crotch strap wasn’t fitted correctly. For this to work correctly the strap needs to pass between your legs (eg under the crotch). If you don’t do this and your in the water, when activated the jacket would end up rising and not give you the correct support in the water. As someone else noted you shouldn’t just clip on to the life line when in the cockpit but rather a secure d ring properly mounted ideally in the cockpit and always clip on two points. Your harness should have a short line and a long one, hence when moving around the boat you are always clipped on and can move the other around. Hope that makes sense. If you only have one long clip on line and especially if it’s attached to the life line and you go over, while you will be attached to the boat you more than likely won’t be able to get back on board and could drown. Hope that helps.

Which electric autohelm is that? I don't recognise the circular (apparently) shape.

Autohelm ST 4000. Very old. Works well but gobbles up the battery.

@@JamesDavis-te6rc Thanks. I'd only seen the 1000 and 2000 before, but all three seem to get a lot of flak on forums. Nice to see an exception.

Lovely video, certainly brought back happy memories for me. I had a MacGregor 26M trailer sailer for nearly three years moored at Trevissome between Penryn and Flushing, just opposite the Premier Marina. My one trip to the Scillies was shortly before I had to sell her but it was delightful; I was able to run her up on the sand bar between St Agnes and Gju. I didn’t do any video but did a write up for the Owner’s Association for anyone interested - drive.google.com/open?id=192EeScE3qwiyv5zQW301zO6gbDKkgEFZ Thanks again for a super video, would love to have seen it while I was planning my trip.

That's a great write-up - lots of helpful, practical details but at the same time evocative of the appeal of the trip. I'll re-read it if I ever get to visit the Scillies in the Dragonfly - I plan to beach her somewhere, much as you did.

I wouldn't call this sailing to the isles of scilly! Rather motoring
