Avoiding seasickness Stay at the stern end of the boat, there is less motion as most of the water has been displaced by the hull. Avoid smells of cooking, engine and people. Stay on deck and look towards the horizon avoid looking into the boat. Sing, talk distract. Avoid alcohol. If you have to go below be prepared before going down. eg, loosen clothing before leaving the deck. Sleep on your left hand side, your stomach will not roll around quite so much. Otherwise enjoy yourselves.

Don't look down on facilities that keep captive aquatic animals until you learn about the science some of them provide. The majority of these facilities obtain the animals when they are orphaned or injured and are kept since they cannot be returned to the wild for whatever reason. A lot of information on reproduction and environmental effects on species is learned there as well, improving our ability to do what we can to improve the lives of those in the wild. Some also are a great economic source to support ocean preserves that are under served economically otherwise. While I will admit there are somes places that are more like puppy mills for sea creatures and exploit them, many are excellent sources of information to the scientific world to improve the sea life as a whole. With that being said, I am enjoying living vicariously through your videos until I retire and my wife and I start our oceanic journey.

Taylor: When you go below in rough seas keep your eyes shut only opening them for a flash to see where you're going. Sea sickness is a conflict between your ears and eyes. You cant shut off your ears so... When you're making lunch or something... keep them shut but blink often like a strobe. It'll help
@nixl35184 жыл бұрын
Yeah!! Like she needs us to tell her what to do!! U know that all the stuff u suggest sometimes works and sometimes not! But really, have u tried to make a sandwich in your kitchen with ur eyes shut, let alone on a moving boat? The strobe idea is another joke. If u open ur eyes long enough to take in information u have defeated the entire exercise. But do u really get what the ear does? Try keeping your eyes shut and twirl in place on land. see what that does! Just don't do it alone! The only antidote is concentration so if she took the helm, that would have been as sure a thing as ever, though depending again on how far gone one is it can go either way! Have u ever been on a boat in a storm even?

Our brains detect movement through our eyes and ears. When there is a conflict between them you can get motion sickness (seasick). If you focus on a fixed object like the horizon, a buoy or a star at night you will fix the problem. Looking at anything on the boat will make it worse. It's also a good time to sip ginger as ginger make the tummy feel better. After doing this for a while on rough sees I don't get seasick anymore.

Really interested to see ths episode as I worked here in the late 1970's on the early 'seed' tourism infrastructure projects for the north DR coast. Our family lived in Puerto Plata and then Sosua and 40 years ago we would have seen you sailing by to Samana. Spent many happy hours in the 'Hotel Castilla' and with the children on the great beachs. Is there anybody out there still ? John Morris, Bill & Rosie, Patrick, Alan Williams, Victor Dominguez, Julio Garcia and the 'Robert Trent Jones' crew to mention a few ; where are you now ? Never been back but it's a beautiful place where I could live despite the hurricanes !

Laura was over the top and without her all is at rest again, planets lining up nice for you. Alpha Irish can be stressful. I was working with an Irish guy and I gave an apprentice a free tool. The Irish guy saw it and wanted a free tool too. I told him no, it was just for the new kid who was starting out, the Irish guy then wanted to fight me. Really fight me, not joking around. He was perfectly sober too. He said it wasnt fair like I owed him a tool. And not all Irish are like that just mostly almost all of them, sometimes, occasionally.

In a pinch, you can remove the air filter and cover the air intake, not with your bare hand, as shutting off the air supply will quickly shut down a diesel without risking loosing the prime in the fuel injectors by shutting off the fuel supply.

Bobby, after using the Ipads for a while now, have you any new thoughts on them? I was thinking about using one on my boat because I keep loosing satellite signal and the alarm that goes off when that happens is very annoying and I cannot turn it off. Oh and I am sailing in the great lakes. I just thought that might be important to your opinion. Finally, I am glad you are all safe and doing well.

Why not said to Black's Beach in La Jolla, CA....warm water, clothing optional, and more.
@danielclint10334 жыл бұрын
It would seem that something broke regarding the remote cables, that is in common, near the decompression lever on the block most likely. Why not manually lift the decompression lever on the block, then identify the problem? Running the diesel out of fuel may result in having to bleed the injectors.
