Sailing through The Caledonian Canal - Chapter 6

Enjoy this ride straight through Scotland, passing through 19 locks to take us along the Caledonian Canal. This manmade canal is one of the real big marvels of human engineering. Forget huge, stormy oceans for a while, and just enjoy the peace and calmness of a 5 day inshore sailing along mountains, still waters and the most beautiful nature Scotland has to offer.

The Great Glen is spectacularly beautiful. I know many sailors enjoy cycling too so if you can't see it by boat I thoroughly recommend cycling it. A group of us did it a few years ago. We hired electric bikes and spent 5 days cycling from Fort William to Inverness. There is plenty of accommodation along the way and portage companies to move your luggage between stops. We also found the locals to be very considerate towards cyclists. One of the best holidays I've had away from sailing. Thank you for sharing Erik.

It reminded me of my solo journey from Long Island Sound to Lake Erie on the Mohawk River the Erie canal and then across Lake Ontario to the Welland canal out onto Lake Erie. 28 days of amazing views wonderful people and a voyage of lifetime.
