This is actually the most informational video I've seen so far (by a long shot). I have never sailed before, and I want to learn, as I will soon be buying a boat of my own. I don't know how to sail, and this video taught me more than anything else on KZbin. Thanks! A+

i love this boat, although many years ago i learned single handed sailing in topper. sometimes working alone just makes you 'get it,'! I recommend single handed sailing for those with ADHD like my son, it makes them focus as they have lots to focus on, making them really good when they master it. :O) good video well done x

The video is extremely well done and the commentary is excellent as well. I can't think of any way this could be improved showing the basic maneuvers when sailing in this length of time. Although this is for beginners it’s obvious that this young lad is a seasoned racer. Thanks!

I did this just earlier today! (That's why i'm looking it up) I capsized twice, I find quick turns difficult. I am eleven by the way. But I am in a far bigger boat. But it does use the same motion!

lol i dont even most of this except the basics an some of the more advanced stuff im still top in my sailing class, i think its because of my experience an comfort in small boats an i also dont hang off the side i just lay in it an roll over when i need to tack

Yes it is helm. Tacking can be hard in lots of wind, but yes, jibing is harder.

Well...This would have helped a bit more few days ago when my friend said he knew how to sail a Sunfish...He did but he 1. relyed on the rudder wayyy to much. 2. didn't have a freaking clue what the daggerboard did and last he didnt know how to tack... with my extremely basic knowledge I avoided a collision with an island but only to realize the daggerboard was broken and he didn't know how to tack..so in the end I flagged down a pontoon boat and we got a tow and the nice people gave us coke :)

in fact, there are a number of ways to say the same thing. besring off is also called falling off. heading up is also called pointing up. just saying. also, luffing up is actually when you bring ther luff, the leading edge of the sail, into the wind. the sail just flaps around when the wind is equally on both sides of the sail. when you luff up, you turn your vessel into the wind which is what you do when pointing or heading up.

unless you weigh like 85 pounds, and are 4' 11", its like sailing in a bathtub, and its not an optimist, its an oppi, the difference is a real laserperformance opti is fiberglass, while its oppi counterpart is rotomouled, which is like plastic

it's opti, not oppi. it's not helm, it's tiller. taking isn't hard, jibing is. I have 2 second drya flags, 1 third, and a 4th over all greenfleet. I know things. And i'm probably getting more flags
