After weeks of boat work, upgrades and tests in Vilamoura we finally found a good weather window to head into the Atlantic ocean! We get our long awaited telescopic whisker pole to pole out the genoa and just love it - check out how we use it - we are literally flying with low winds and manage to sail some good distance into the Atlantic ocean. The first part of our Atlantic crossing starts and we are super excited and celebrate with cheesecake (thanks again for sending the recipe to us;)

Congrats and that big step! Looking forward to hearing more about the mods you made to the boat. We just purchased a pole for our 393 and still need to install the track. I should have done it when we first bought the boat two years ago. So many missed sailing opportunities without it.

Safe passage guys. Question. Why do you need a trisail when you have an inmast main that have infinite reefing points?
@WhenSailing
@WhenSailing 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question Patrick! The trysail fabric itself is thicker and more stable and it is not attached to the boom so lees breaking chance, might heel the boat from one side to another quite heavily in stormy conditions 😅 are you considering one?

It does have its own beauty as well, that‘s true😊 Thank you - i could totally use some good warmth here (we‘ve got 40cm of snow and it‘s below zero temps 🥶). The lake is a bit too large to freeze. But it‘s still too cold for sailing, our boat is currently taking its well deserved winter rest in the shed 🙈

Oh yees and the snow is amazing! We miss that - we are from South Tirol so somewhat neighbours and skiing was always a must in winter=) hehe can imagine! when does the season normally start over there?

I found Vilamoura a nice place but golly it's expensive. If I had to choose a port down the south to do boat works and prep, I think I'd try Lagos next time. I'm heading down your path shortly, from Cascais I think and maybe I'll find you at Las Palmas. Something I don't understand though, why did you pole out the genoa when you have a perfectly good spinnaker?
@WhenSailing
@WhenSailing 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian, yea totally agree...the prob was our rigger was there and as we had a bit of a time pressure to get on😆 would have preffered every other marina as Vilamoura is more a fancy holiday marina😂 aaa we only got the gennaker in las palmas and still can’t substitute one with the other, much depending on wind direction and force☺️

I love your videos and have been watching them for a while. I do some music production and I have tips about the music (hope you don't mind!): It's a bit too loud for me (compared to the other audio) and the soundtracks are often too cheesy upbeat songs in my opinion, which doesn't give off that unique vibe that can help make your videos special. Of course, all just my opinion trying to help! ;) Happy sailing!! ~David

Thanks David! Really appreciate the feedback - we learned a lot on the video side and audio is still far away for us😆 currently we try to get the voice sorted😅 different microphones and the wind is quite tricky to match:) help is welcome and hope to read more tips on our videos 👍🏻 greta & michael

hi guys, you know I am a big fan from the first hour - and if I would have to give a suggestion where your video's have possibility to improve it would be the same comment as David mentioned - I thought at first it was my age or my personal music preferences, lol, so I never commented on it. Of course it's all about priorities and as I see how much work you both put in the upgrades of the both I can imagine soundtracks is not on top of the "to do's - list" ;-) but I am sure soon or late you gonna get there! Looking forward to the next "leg-video"!

thanks dirk! really important to get that feedback as we always try to improve it! what kind of music are you listening to / should we switch to more rock / non digital music?😅
@David-td8dq

Look at sailing la vagabonde for example. They almost always use songs youve probably never heard before, and so the audio makes the video feel unique and new and matches the feeling of exploring new things (what sailing is all about). But lets say I have already heard your songs before, it takes the 'new' feeling of it away and your exploring wont feel like 'exploring' as much since the audio is already familiar to the viewers. And for type of music I recommend switching genres and not sticking to only dance type music, so to bring as much variety and different emotions for different scenes because sailing probably wont always feel like a dance concert, but also like a chill saturday evening or chill country for example. (In which case youd be better of using guitar accoustics or something similar). Thats my explanation as to how music can change feelings a lot. Hope it makes at least a little bit of sense! :) ~David

@@WhenSailing I like a lot of different kinds of music - I don't doubt you both have good taste in music - let's say something smooth that goes with the waves (I know, it seems hard to search for the right music, because there is a lot out there - anyways, I know I am following the right sailing channel!).
