Thanks Matt, it was fun chatting with you about downwind sails and I hope it helps some sailors to understand them a bit more.

Thanks for a great discussion. I appreciate knowing the difference (or not difference) between asym, gennakers, and screechers.

Excited to hear you've got your downwind sail. You will probably be putting that on your " one of the best investments" list. I use my code zero as much, if not more than my Genoa. Nothing like cruising at near wind speed!

Probably so! We're slowly growing our confidence with it. Can't wait to be able to sail in the teens!!!

Here's what I love about the Fosters. They're thorough and they take their time expanding their sailing toolkit with the patience of a true sailor. I like the bikini sailing channels, but nothing compares to the content on this sailing channel/travel channel!! Keep it up 🙌

Thanks- that is a pretty sail. What weight is it? I am surprised the sailmaker did not even talk about nylon cloth weights, eg 0.75, 1.5 oz etc.
@TheFosterJourney Жыл бұрын
Thanks. The asymmetrical spinnaker is a Nylite 90 0.75oz (Contender). In other talks, we talked about wind angles and wind speeds I want to sail in. Then @PrecisionSailLoftVictoria recommended the sail cloth options. They were real helpful like that for newer sailors like us.

What's the reason for no furler on your asymmetrical Spinnaker?
@TheFosterJourney Жыл бұрын
We don't have space on our bow for a furler, at least not without additional modifications.

There's this nautical saying "gentleman don't sail in fowl weather" and if one only sailed in nice calm down winds using a spinnaker would that qualify him or her as of gentlemanly character lol. I watched one sailor who was instructing a couple cute ladies on how to sail his boat, and during the instruction he told one with a little more experience to "turn off a breaker" which she thought she quickly did correctly. She had turned off the auto pilot and they had a spinnaker up so all of a sudden the boat leans almost to 45 degrees ! The spinnaker was almost entirely at a 90 degree ! No damage done, at least if a pot fell off the stove they didn't talk about it ! He eventually married that cute lady with the wrong breaker experience.
