I have to say, as an Aussie with the Great Barrier reef on our doorstep and South East Asia and the South Pacific Islands not far away, I had never considered Britain as an interesting cruising ground. But you have opened my eyes. What a beautiful place. And of course why not, Britain has always had such a strong connection to the sea. Rule Britannia!

Even though I personally trust him not to run after the sheep I still don't think you can ever be 100% sure there's always that 'what if' thought in the back of your head and you're right, there were plenty of other places for him to be able to run and explore, so no need to scare the sheep, or worse, upset a farmer in his manor 😇🙏🏻

I’ve moored up in the entrance to Polperro. It’s not too bad providing the winds in the right direction. You must moor fore and aft but it’s just ‘got to be done’ in my book. Even if it’s just a lunch stop.

I couldn't agree more. It was a bit of a challenge for us, especially as we had never attempted a trot mooring before and when you get close to the entrance on the boat it also did feel a bit high stakes as you start lining yourself up.

To start, I'm a Texas USA girl! I love my wide open spaces and majestic beauty we have near my home. I've never had the urge to go much farther to find visually pleasing surroundings. I've never had any desire to visit Britain. But I've been watching sailing channels for a few years now and must say the beauty you show of Britain and its seacoast and country sides on occasion are so beautiful, it bring tears to my eyes! I just wanted to say thank you for widening my world even if only via the internet!!

You know 90% of the time filming and putting these videos together, to showcase the majesty of my homeland, is an absolute labour of love, but every now and then I have days when I find it hard to open the editing software again, not often, but sometimes. Thankfully, equally every now and then I get a message like this and it’s all the fuel in the world I need to keep going. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and I’m glad you’re enjoying exploring our home shores with us. I have actually visited several places in Texas over the years and have been lucky enough to travel to many places in America, and I mean it when I say this, but the Texans I met were easily the most friendly people I’d ever met over there. 😊🙏🏼🇺🇸

Good afternoon, Please can you tell me about your underwater breathing set up. Maybe even a quick video? Thank you, Gareth
@CadohaAdventures
@CadohaAdventures Жыл бұрын
Hello there, I wrote this is a previous video which I hope covers what I use: For everyone messaging me and asking about my under-water breathing equipment, this is the system we're using here: www.airbuddy.com/?ref=aJ0aLM Now let me say a few things before you run off and buy one. Firstly I have nothing to compare it to other than free-diving. I've never scuba dived before in my life and I've never used another hookah before. I did do a lot of due diligence when it comes to understanding the dangers of breathing compressed air under the water. In short, these things are dangerous and not to be taken lightly. If you think this is something you'd be interested in then please do speak to a diving expert (I've had the good fortune to learn from several, in terms of theory, as well as my own continued reading). We really enjoy this electronic hookah as it's small, lightweight and seemed (to us) perfect for the little space we had on the boat, where dive tanks and a compressor just wouldn't fit, as well as add a lot of additional weight. If you use the above link and you do buy one too then we will get a small kick back which will go towards Hanks treat jar, it's the same price regardless of if you go to the company directly, but I know some people feel a certain kind of way about us getting any kind of kick backs, so if that's you then just google 'air buddy dive system' and go to the site directly, again the price is the same regardless, but I'd like you to feel good about how you got there, so, there you have it. What else can I say? We bought the system directly from the company in Australia. We bought it ourselves and paid full price for it. We saw a 'distributer' in the UK, but they wanted close to double the price and had similar wait times to simply ordering direct from Australia, so that's why we went direct and just paid some import taxes, which still worked out much cheaper than the UK distributer. The team at Air Buddy have also been amazing on the other end of my emails and questions, for us it's been a very positive after sales service. Again I've never tried any other products so I am in no way qualified to give any advice other than say that we use this most days and have been enjoying it, we've used it to check on the anchor, clean under the boat mid-season, explore some amazing reefs and do a spot of foraging too. We get close to an hour under the water on my own or about 50 minutes when Carly is attached to it too. I hope that's answered most of the questions which have come my way but if you have any more then again please do just ask and I'll do my best to answer them from my own anecdotal experience.

Love the intro music! Don’t you worry about getting your air hose caught when you swim thru those narrow passages? Is your goal not to tie up in a marina for a year? If so, it seems you are on your way? Is that a “hiking robe”?…so chic!
@CadohaAdventures
@CadohaAdventures Жыл бұрын
I have actually got the hose caught a couple of times on overhanging rocks but it's very springy and solid and comes back off very easily. I'm also not very deep so if I get into an issue here, I'm all of a few kicks away from the surface. I probably wouldn't be investigating such narrow spots at say 10m+ depth, but 3-4m doesn't worry me a great deal. That is just me however, I'm not suggesting others shouldn't be mindful of where they go with one

@CadohaAdventures Жыл бұрын
Yes you can forage with them. In some areas you need a permit, like Devon for example you need a recreational shellfish permit which is £20 for two years. So always just check the local bylaws of the areas you intend to forage in, personally I found it easier to just call the IFCA and speak to someone on the phone. Hope that helps 🙏🏼

@CadohaAdventures
@CadohaAdventures Жыл бұрын
No it's perfectly legal in most of the UK. You need a permit in certain areas (which I have) and you're not allowed to use a speargun whilst using self contained breathing apparatus (scuba, hookah etc). It's always a good idea to check the local bylaws where you intend to dive though. I was in doubt in a couple of spots and couldn't find the information that I needed, so just picked up the phone to the IFCA and a very helpful chap let me know what was and was not OK for me to hunt whilst using the hookah where we were.

It wasn't a ghost net, it was intentionally laid by the looks of it as it was floated in the surface and the fisherman came and collected it the next day. I did however find it surprising where it was shot and when speaking with a friend of mine (who happens to be a fisheries officer) he did say that it was shot in an illegal spot as it was clearly way too shallow where it was. So I'll know for next time.

@CadohaAdventures
@CadohaAdventures Жыл бұрын
I mean when we first got Cadoha we sailed from Scotland to Ireland then from Ireland to the south coast and we even popped to the isles of Scilly a couple of times (which certainly seemed to mean heading round Lands-end) as well as a winter crossing of the bay of Biscay a couple of years back during a storm too. The focus this year was to just build out all the amazing anchorages for people to see just how many amazing places are on offer here and it wasn’t about distance, just (hopefully) building something that can be of use to others. As for my ‘big boy pants’, I’m sure we’ll be heading to many more places over the years. It’s really enjoyable heading to all these destinations. I’m not sure it takes ‘big boy pants’ to do, I mean it’s not like it’s professional Muay Thai boxing in Bangkok or cage fighting, or all the fights you need to win to be one of the very rare humans to be able to earn a black belt from arguably the toughest team in all the world, the Carlson Gracie lineage of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or anything like that, I mean it’s just travelling at 6mph from one anchorage to another, in the relaxing environment of a well built boat where you can spend your time enjoying a wonderfully slow pace of life, reading a good book whilst watching the world drift by. It’s a much more beautiful pace of life and it’s certainly not something I fear, I look forward to sailing somewhere new in a way that I honestly never looked forward to when it came to doing battle with yet another highly trained man. This life is beautiful and gentle and I can’t wait to experience much more of it now that I’ve retired my gloves. To be honest I feel no fear at all, only gratitude. I feel very fortunate that I’ve discovered such a wonderful way of life for this next chapter of mine ☺️🙏🏼
