I wish you folks werent so far from Texas where I live because I have a rod with roller eyes that I would gladly gift to you. I have to hold on my senator for sentimental reasons but I never miss watching you guys because your attitude in dealing with any troubles never seems to remove the smiles from your faces. I Love you Guys.

Great seeing you out sailing and learning all about the big girl, looking amazing, best channel going around. Precision Sail maybe you might like to do another new sail for this fantastic channel, I’m sure you won’t regret it. Cheers

I've had my Penn reel since I was a kid . Maybe 50 years . Great reels . Keep them clean and oiled and it will give you years of service . I loved the DIY rod . Great job captain & crew .

On the boom furling sail, more tension on the halyard while furling and tention the furling line while raising the sail. (obviously fix the battens too) The tension needs to be tight enough that if you raise the sail to a reefing point it won't slip on the drum and come out further. I put three wraps around a secondary wench and let it slip slowly while I furl mine....Mine's not the same brand, but the same concept should apply.

Hi Guys , those older style Penn Senators are great and even easier to maintain as compared to the lever style. I’ve owned both. Keep a snap clip on the top of the reel when trolling. When u get a new rod ( pole) stay away from roller guides n stay with ceramic guides. Always angle the rod towards the stern to aid in stopping the lure flipping out of the water , let the tip of the rod take the surges as the lure darts all over the place . Have fun

I have in boom furling. Works great. Just got to make sure you keep a tight hold on the in haul when rolling in so sail rolls tight.

What a ripper of trip down the coast Lee 👏👏👏You put in so much time & effort checking and repairing everything to be sure it works as a well oiled machine & it makes me stand up and shout "You bloody bewdy" followed by a fist punch, when she lets it rip !!! Hahahah what a typical bloody Aussie make-shift fishing rod. Hang in their mate, youll catch something sooner or later. Well, old mate, you sure earned a bloody good shut-eye after that . Hope youre in warmer waters now, rested and refreshed and with a belly full of fresh saltwater fish. Aussie Aussie Aussie OI🇦🇺OI🇦🇺OI🇦🇺

Get an bent butt Acid wrapped rod with a pulley at the tip like they use in Hawaii. Brilliant idea. Senator is a total and utter workhorse. Upgrade the drag washers and away you go. That Dacron line thats on it might need replacing esp if its an older Dacron, UV isnt too kind to any line really.

Love the new boat, we have an in boom furler ,and we love it, it has taken a while to learn though. If on the odd occasion it starts to jam ( because we haven’t adjusted boom height correctly, or not right tension on main sheet, or topper)we just remove a batten before it pokes through the sail and it furls , even once in 30knots down wind.

furling booms (with a few exceptions) are a brilliant idea on a whole number of levels. Notwithstanding they can be a bit finnicky until you understand them properly. getting the angle of the boom in relation to the mast is critical - (I can't stress critical enough.) most of the issues relate to being able to recover the sail - I would chase down the manufacturer and ask for details set of instructions. ( they are not as you see - is as you get) - once you have them worked out you will love em.

West coast fishing ; overcast dark day use darker color lures. black n purple etc,. bright sunny day use bright colors, plus speed n how far u drag lure behind r huge factors, FYI ; cedar plug normally used at faster speeds. GOOD LUCK HOOKIN UP !!!!!!

Try furling with slight up wind side of the sail just to keep slight tension in sail

I've never sailed with a furling boom but it's always seemed to me that if it fails, you can be in a situation where you can't get your main down, which if it's as you approach a lee shore or if you're dropping the main because of a sudden squall, can turn a simple sail change into a really dangerous situation.

Good length for the boat, but can see that Ali tube snapping, try jamming a wooden broomstick inside it. Guess Lee's packing enuf buoyancy that he doesn't need a life jacket.

If you meet up with us s/v SandDallor in OZ Nov-April I will give you my heavy duty deep sea rod. I've sleighed it going across the Pacific last year just using hand reels. Great vids!

There nis no perfect sail handling system, each furling/reefing system has it's pros and cons. Roller in boom appeals to me as all the weight is low. In extremis you can still drop the sail. It does need the boom in the right position and all those loose bits sticking out are a natural for a jam. Some running repairs and trials with the boom level should make a big difference.
