🤔 I admire that you located your parts at a bargain and utilized standard sized parts rather than proprietary parts where both availability and price gouging becomes an issue. Secondly your knowledge on maintaining it by putting the membrane in wet layup yields a long service life. 🤗

I always learn something from your videos! Today I learned not to use marina or city water to backflush my watermaker. I just installed a seawater pro watermaker 12v system, but haven't fired it up yet. Thank you!
@danknox99868 ай бұрын
The best thing about a water maker you build yourself is that after you do that you are no longer afraid of them! There is however no way I can have a generator that powerful on our boat. A 12 volt high pressure pump is never going to make 40 gallons an hour. Maybe I should look into running it directly off the engine.

Apparently the important part is to tighten down the fittings in those plastic caps until they crack. My boat came with several spares all cracked and one cracked on in service.

No, they're supposed to just be tightened up just snug because the o-ring is what really makes the seal. Thanks for watching

Jules, By following your instructions from your earlier video showing how to build your own watermaker, we built one for our previous boat. It worked perfectly from the word go. Now we are starting to build another one for the vessel we are restoring / rebuilding. Thank you such an informative instructional video from back then and now this one just adds to the instructions. May the of you enjoy plenty of fair winds and calm seas in your future.

Hi Julius, Do you improve the taste of the water by adding calcium and magnesium, i tasted the water from my own mashine, and those small add on filters really improve the taste. Also, the added calcium should make a more healthy water. Thanks for your video..... Best on ebay 🧐

Well Done! Jules I am always impressed.by your DIY approach. I just built a home brew seawater RO water maker and the next step is to install it on the boat. I am a bit surprised that you added a UV filter. Did you have any bad experiences without it that caused you to add it? Fair winds in all your endeavors!

No bad experiences but it is reasonably inexpensive and just an added layer of protection.

Why are the two membranes different? Is this by design or by convenience? Meaning what was available at the time of build?
@SailingEmeraldSteel8 ай бұрын
The membranes are the same, but the pressure vessels are different. The blue one was given to us and the white one we purchased to increase our water out put. It increased by 65%, so well worth it. Thanks for watching
@sailingtheworld20218 ай бұрын
with RO water is it nessessary to have a UV light in the system? I noticed in your diagram that you have a UV light.
@SailingEmeraldSteel8 ай бұрын
The U.V light is good for killing cysts and viruses. Just an added layer of protection. We also have a charcoal filter at the end of the line to remove any possible odors, ie. a small fish in the water strainer. The membrane purifies and removes salt but doesn't remove odors. Thanks for watching!
@MrJeffDemme8 ай бұрын
Hello, thank you for the very informative video. One question: do you have two parallel filters? Is this just to make lots of water fast to save generator run time? I am considering a smaller 12 volt version as we have a large battery bank, huge alternators and are a motor sailor. Run time shouldn't be an issue. I suppose a smaller filter running more time would have to be replaced sooner.
@SailingEmeraldSteel8 ай бұрын
Yes, the two parallel membranes increase the fresh water output about 70% because the second membrane receives the first membranes reject water which is saltier so that's why you won't double your fresh water output. Thanks for watching.
