Wonderful film as usual. Fair Isle sets the standard.

Great film, loved the swans and sound track. Some of the cinematography is stunning. Thank you for sharing.

Another wonderful video. Rowing the gondola looks very similar to the ancient art of sculling a dinghy - using a single oar at the stern of a rowing boat - every boatman should learn to scull!
@svfairisle3 ай бұрын
It might look like that but I can tell you it’s not! I can skull but keeping the very heavy oar against the focola on the forward stroke is damn near impossible

Hi S & J, your videos have inspired me to SIGNIFICANTLY reduce the number of wires on my vessel. Being a minimalist that excites me big time
@svfairisle3 ай бұрын
I don’t have an issue with wires, wires are good and necessary. It’s leads trailing around everywhere I find like so I fit more wires so I can have power outlets ( mainly usbc) everywhere. So more wires less leads!

Hi, a great video,the ship you passed looks to be a dredger that pins itself to the bottom with the two long legs and then works around itself from that position. Thank you.Roly🇬🇧.
@svfairisle3 ай бұрын
Yes it is a dredger, it just seems unbelievably large to be navigating in the shallow waters it's in though. We did see it some time after digging itself out!

Nice revisiting Venice, a bit of a shock seeing jackets and hats. Appreciated your relaxed enjoyment of the area. Seemed very welcoming.

Was that balsamic vinegar Steve, or balsamic glaze? I like the glaze, I could drink it straight from the bottle.

Yes you can get some really nice concentrated balsamic pretty much anywhere now, it helps being in Italy for the good mozzarella though!

I am currently reconfiguring my saloon galley spaces. I have an area 9 x 13 ft to work with, plus under the deck shelves to a 14'2" beam. Your galley countertops look extremely limited. How do you find it?
@svfairisle3 ай бұрын
It’s fine, you just work with what you have. The only time I really find I need more space is plating up but I tend to put the boards in the sinks & do it there. If we had a full crew I would probably want more, it’s good for two

@@SteveButterworth-n9m Arh I see! sorry it's been a while since i edited those videos so haven't got the full script in my head. ( to be honest that happens within a few weeks these days!) The reason for the numbers is just purely because the whole of the Venice area was packed with people because of the commerce that went through Venice. it took over from Delos (which we featured in a later episode) as the epicenter of world commerce. Delos has had an even greater swing in numbers, from 30,000 to 14 now! I think at one time the island was also used to quarantine sailors which became a requirement during times of plague in the world

Hi Steve, how did the 4g WiFi via mobile work out? I think I remember it doesn’t?
@svfairisle3 ай бұрын
Oh yes I forgot the initial instal was in Venice, I should have put a note that it was rubbish! I've said it several times in episodes and there's a note on the tech video warning people... and we gave it 1/10 in the one year on review, very disappointing. Fortunately largely superseded by Starlink now.

This is a good video. But as far as being rewarded for good content by KZbin you are on a hiding to nothing. At the time of writing you have only 3 K views, 29 commments and 70 K subscribers. KZbin is calibrated taking into account American content producers, such as people showing themselves restocking their fridge, or showing themselves arranging their make-up tubes; all with a million subscribers and a million views per video. Advertisers are duped because the type of viewer who may be interested in their products are generally not within the interest area of these silly million view videos. I do not normally write comments - what's the point, but it is definitely not a level playing field vis-a-vis the U.S and the rest of the world. It has to be said.

I don’t think it has anything to do with US v the rest of the world, we get about a third of our views from the US a third from the UK and the rest from everywhere else. It’s the same for all our videos, we also have most viewers in the over 60’s bracket. The truth is there are a huge number of young people on YT who might be interested in makeup, not so many older people interested in a niche subject such as sailing! You’re definitely right though in that YT is doing us no favours, it’s algorithm supports numbers not quality. It’s only interest is keeping people on the platform and it thinks it can do that by giving people what others of their demographic are looking at, even if it’s crap! YT has no real way of assessing quality other than seeing how long the engagement was. This is no good if you are not found in the first place. So only the few people who have a history of searching and looking at sailing videos might be offered one of our videos ( and it’s all about what is offered YT is far to big to search anything now) The real problem is there are many sailing channels that have been around for a long time, not all necessarily good! and these will be the ones offered, so as you say smaller channels don’t really have a hope on YT because it’s not fit for purpose

Spraying the zipper of the bike bag reminds me. I live in a very hot and humid country. If i don't exercise the plastic zippers, including my pants, the zippers swell. I use WD40 to loosen 4:20
