The Odisea 48 from Odisea Catamarans has just started to get built in Vietnam. The design is complete, the paperwork has been done and now the factory has had 4 days to start the job and they are welding like madmen. Finally the wait is over, the Elcano World Challenge will begin in 2024 people.

Been to plenty of fab shops and engineering workshops and not one of them would have allowed the level of access you're getting for your build. As for being able to video in their shop, would never have happened where I had business. Hope they continue to give you access, really enjoying the process. No wonder boat building is dead in Australia, can't compete in our nanny state....

Plukky those guys are so fast it makes me wonder if they're trying to finish quickly so you'll get out if their shop 🤣😆. Honestly I think they probably enjoy your antics. It's probably not very common for them to have a caveman in a hard hat filming for KZbin. Seriously now, I'm really impressed with their speed and efficiency. It's incredible. I’m thinking if while watching these revealing behind the scenes build videos, your catamaran priority is “safest, fastest and best value”, and you’re almost ready to pull the trigger, and particularly if you’re familiar with the Mumby 48’s 20+ years of successful blue ocean sailing, that you may want to commit now and sign on for an Odisea 48. I think doing it now, rather then in 12-18 months after Plukky’s has been fully kitted, that placing an order then would see you behind 5 to 10 other builds. Right now the factory is at low capacity, commit now and you may see your build appear in the background. Not only will you be receiving what may become a top shelf catamaran, but you’ll also be able to see it being built live! Woohoo peeple, that’s what I’d call a win, win. :o)

Overhauled a motor last summer, and to my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed the process. I started wrenching at 13. It came natural, and is still in my blood. It looks as if you are right at home and should be building boats instead of sailing them. Unfortunately it is too late for me to go back and do it right.

This is so cool to watch. I love it! Those guys are doing a fantastic job. Question, you have stated that they are using the best aluminum and welding rod. What about weld inspections. How are they inspecting the welds. I mean, what type of tool are they using to check the welds? Also, what company did they get the aluminum from and where do they get the cnc work done?

They should be building more boats rather than waiting for customers to order them. Have you thought about delivering new boats for pee-pol for extra cash and adventure? You need to protect your eyes from the welding light. Looking at that light will cause blindness.

It's called flash burn what happens imagine you eye are a bunch of cones the welding light or arc bleaches those cones it very painful ! They can buy big screen to place around the welders but as you see they don't have them ! It's a military boat yard I am surprised they are letting them build private or commercial boat there ?

They wouldn’t let Peter in the yard one day he didn’t have a badge? I worked in naval shipyard in Washington and Hawaii you have to do a background NCIC just to get on the property!

@@nealchristensen2576 I believe that. I went to a military base for a wedding and they wanted a lot of information from me. That was about ten years ago. Although, in the 1980's, I had a friend that was using his dads car with a sticker on the windshield and all four of us teenagers drove onto base with just a salute from the guard. No questions asked at all. Once on the base in San Diego, I was asked if I wanted to check out a sub at the docks. I accepted and got to go inside. I didn't show ID or anything at all. We didn't have to answer any questions what so ever. Times for sure have changed since 9/11.
