You need to sail with my mate Adrian. He's like a sail whisperer. Fascinates me watching him walk around the deck looking up at the sails then comes back, I can get you half a knot if you like, as if anyone would turn down half a knot. Alters a couple of sheets or halyards and bang, half a knot. Walks around again, get you another couple of tenths and there it is. PS we always find it easier to hold the tow rope when we get pulled behind the tender 😁😁

Hullo Khiara and Adam, your Nana Joan & I just finished watching this ep. as always, loved it. We both commented on the difference from about 2 years back. Then, when you had to leave somewhere and go places, you motored. Now you up anchor and up sails, amazing what a little practice can do. pleased that you are still enjoying yourselves, keep smiling, be happy and keep living your dream. love Nana & Granddad

Whales! They're the greatest things to see. I once had one swim directly under my keel. Woohoo. I also note that the encounter was due to your spontaneous decision to keep sailing for the joy of it. Spontaneity pays! Khiara is obviously the mermaid, and of course, Adam is Aquaman. I understand your desire to sail and keep that motor off Adam. You want to get everyone watching you? Sail into the anchorage all sails flying, turn into the wind, drop the anchor realize there's a current drop the sails the anchor grabs take a bow, and think about if you ever should do that again. Yeah, sure you should. Thanks for the excellent show!

Loved the shot of Adam laying on the deck to observe sail trim. Not enough people realize that you CAN leave the cockpit to check on trim, and in fact, it’s a great idea to get that different perspective from the side deck, or the bow, or the lower rail sitting inside the slot. Great job and thanks for showing it.
@shaneriehl223
@shaneriehl223 3 жыл бұрын
BTW, tightening down on the Cunningham will pull the draft forward and make it a sharper turn at the mast, but that’s a good setting to reduce the backing and in flatter seas you don’t need the power of a broader/mid-sail draft. You can also tighten the backstay to take some of the camber out of the head to flatten the mid/head (note that will move the draft forward by tightening the luff of the jib, so you may want to loosen the jib halyard to power up the jib again... if that’s what you’re going for).

@@SailingMillennialFalcon Crew laughed at me when I initiated the third gybe within two bells - halfway from Tristan to Cape Town. Today I think they were right. So, just keep it chill, as long as You see it pass by when You lost the cork, everything is fine. Sailing regatta even with Your own when there is no other boat in sight is an arduous task and sooner or later ruins morale aboard crewed yachts.

Your sewing machine appears to be very traditional. What type and how old is it? Seems to cope well with the webbing. Your dinghy is fed up of always being forced to follow Millie. Now he has found a smaller vessel that he can pull around. Makes him feel really grown up.

@@SailingMillennialFalcon I looked up that model on Google. Seems they are great machines. My mother used to have a Singer Treadle machine (no electric motor, you drive it with you feet rocking a pedal). When I was 8 (in 1963) she bought a new Bernina electric machine to save space. I still have the "new" machine, and still use it (sadly Mum passed away over 40 years ago). However, I think deep down she prefered the Singer. Looks like you are putting your classic machine to good, and may I say skillful, work. Well done.
