Oh, the places she's going to go! She's so strong now. I'm excited that you're finally getting to the making her back into a home part. The truck stuff is fun but I miss you two on the water. Do you think it's going to feel like a completely different boat, or do you think she'll retain the old Uma handling feel?
@SailingUma
@SailingUma 7 күн бұрын
Well. We won't really know until we get there. But, I can tell you that when we glassed over the deck joint in Guatemala all those years ago, we noticed a significant improvement in her handling. I think this refit will blow that out of the water. But for us, it's less important. As long as she doesn't squeak, we'll take it as a WIN!

At the risk of being a doom and gloom merchant...........make sure you've got adequate ventilation. Other than the companionway, I think everything is sealed up. An atmosphere full of acetone, resin or paint fumes could make a big bang if the aircon sparks when it turns on. I've seen it happen with fumes from contact adhesive. Other than that, great job. It's great to see you breathing new life into a boat which has looked after you over the last few years.

I enjoyed your weekend away from boatwork! You know what they say: "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." -- and you don't want to live with that one, Kika (even though his name is Dan). I look forward toward more of this balance in your upcomng videos as well! 😜

That nasty old hull liner on your overhead provided an air gap and a way for condensation to run without falling on your head. Similar to the inner Ceiling in the hulls of old wooden boats. My Bristol Corinthian, with a balsa cored deck and no head liner gets pretty wet with condensation when it gets below 60 deg F. I have a small cabin so the RH might be higher, but you may need a liner or more insulation above when you go back to cold weather areas.

Probably too late to tell you this, but you can zigzag large pieces of cut wetted fibreglass, and sit the pile on a piece of timber or something. You hold that in one hand, start at one side of the ceiling, and use the other hand to roller it as you move away. Used to do long runs of heavy wallpaper this way in Germany, sitting on a wooden step ladder and rocking from side to side to walk it forwards.

Good looking overhead glassing job! That was a good idea to take us all to the beach! I, for one, needed to get away from the implied resin smells & itchy glass. And who knew you could do finger welding via peel-ply removal! Now you have no excuse for not adding a stainless steel top rail to your lifelines! By the way, you have a very unique, simple, and iconic opening and closing to your episodes with the boat horn and sailor's whistle that blazes the way for the UMA experience! I love it!

Amazing work... so: very anxious and excited to see your plans for the rebuilding of the interior. You had shown us some of this before the demolition got underway, but it would be great if you would do a re-cap. I imagine you may revise some of that now you have literally "first, second, third.... hand" knowledge of every square centimeter of the new shell of Uma. I know you have been "one with Uma" for a long time now, but now she is hard-wired into your genetic memory.
