Suggestion before you put your engine in put a stainless steel sheet metal tray under it to catch any spills or leaks and any tools that get dropped whilst working on the engine ...it stops oils and derv and cooling water soaking into the timbers under the engine turning black smelly and causing problems later. Diesel liquid wont burn easy but if it soaks into wood or fabrics it will ignite and burn .

...I think this is a great idea
@elrobo35683 жыл бұрын
I had a boat repair shop and put a stainless-steel pan under the engine before we installed it and also put nonflammable fuel absorbent pads (available on Amazon) on the bottom, this made the pan very easy to keep clean and also gave a better indication of the location of any leaks. The packages of pads are also good to keep in the engine bay for any outside the pan leaks. They will not absorb water only oil only fuel. If you really want to get protection, there are sensors that can be put in the pan and or the bilge to give you an indication of fluid in the pan or bilge at the helm. I have these in my boat. a little more peace of mind and they are cheap!

That clever puppy climbing the ladder reminded me of how many times a day you have to go up and down to the boat. Take half a day to build a set of stairs, believe me it will speed things up and make life so much easier especially during the fit out stage when you are constantly fetching parts and tools.

You guys are doing a fantastic job. But you are so blessed to have the older gentleman who is a master wood worker and ship right. Watching him work is an amazing privilege to see old school ship building skills that are slowly disappearing as these old craftmens go away. I'm not sure how you found these guys ,but it was pure genius when you hired them for this build. I can hardly wait to see her under sail. I hope you have these craftsmen sign thier work somewhere on the boat and you take group and individual pictures of this group of great carpenters and display thier pictures on this wonderful ship they are building.

One of the sailing channels (I can't remember which) had a process where every year had a colour, whenever a part was replaced it would be painted the colour for that year, the engine would end up a hodge podge of colours but he knew at a glance how old parts were and if they were due for replacement.

It's hard for me to comprehend the amount of labor and materials that are going into this project. The hull, deck and topsides are looking awesome, but you're just beginning on the interior work with bulkheads, lockers, heads, electrical, plumbing, finish carpentry, engine and transmission, furniture and decorating and so much more to go. Do you have a target date for completion? I hope you will be sharing some statistics on man hours of labor, board feet of lumber, gross displacement of Yaba, and more? Finally, I think a lot of us would like to know the cost of all of this in Brasil as compared to costs around the world, so I hope you will share that at some point as well. Thanks for the videos, you are a fearless, resourceful, adventurous and fun couple. You're going to enjoy your voyages on Yaba for a long time and remember this time forever. Best wishes.
