That Powel is such a bullshit artist - I had his number the first time he appeared - I'm not saying he's any worse than anybody else - we all have a foibles ! Fantastic documentary , must have been tough to edit . I was 8 when this was made and it's quite sobering to realise that a lot of the guys we see will have left us by now .

Yes he is bullshitting but as the officer says he is a good steady hand on board ship and a nightmare when the ship’s in port. He’s a Leading Hand so roughly the same as a Corporal. If you watch the final episode which is set 8 years later on he is out of the Navy and misses it. He had trouble adjusting to civilian life, misses the discipline and ends up divorced and having a nervous breakdown.
