Thank you Sam. I have a Sailor fude I'm learning to use. This video is very helpful. I do feel it's a little light and brittle. I have a TWSBI that I love though not a fude as you know.

Love Twsbi!!! I have an eco with fine nib…I find it so fancy! And I really like the nib and ink capacity

I have come across your channel and subscribed. You're so engaging and a joy to watch, really feel as though I'm there. I was mainly interested in knitting, as never done it before, but want to try to learn. I know you don't do tutorials, I can look elsewhere for that, but your patterns and enthusiasm is just perfect. I actually have really enjoyed your sketches and painting too, so, although not good at that myself, may have a try. Watched quite a few of your past videos and found it heart warming to hear more about your life journey too. I will try to visit your Instagram to see more of your work. Thanks again Sam, and looking forward to future content. Take care

Thanks so so much ❤️ you should do it! It’s a lot of fun and a massive learning possibility

Have you tried other inexpensive Fude tip pens like Jinhao? They have some pens that hold larger amounts of ink. I love your painting.

I do have a couple I bought online for a few euros…but I don’t remember the brands. The end up being my to go pens when travelling…even if I lose one it’s not a big deal. And they are really handsome pens

I love my Fude (Sailor) pen. Yesterday I was outside urban sketching and accidentally dropped it on the ground. Unfortunately it fell directly on the nib! Tragedy. I straighten it out as best I could but it no longer does thin lines. I just picked up a replacement…. Such is urban sketching

Tragic story! It happens to all of us 😅 have you ever tried these cheap fude nib fountain pens like Jinho or something ? I bought a bunch on the internet for a few euros only…they are not as reliable as sailor but they are very very decent

I stayed to the end! That kind of pen I think of as used in calligraphy not sketching. This was interesting. This is off topic but have you used colored pencils in your artwork? I actually introduced them to my preschoolers and was amazed how much they liked using them.

that's so interesting! I have used coloured pencil in the past, but not that often. This makes me want to go back to them

Hi tbhere Sam! Thank you for your video, it explains it very well! I´m thinking on buying this pen but let me ask you something, i noticed that you paint using watercolour after inking but the ink stays fixed to the paper! (it doesn´r react to the water getting blur...) I understand you are using a special ink for it, but when I´ve used this kind of inks for the same purpose my fountain pen didn´t work properly because the ink dried too much... I don´t know if you understand what i´m saying. Does it happen with this one? Thanx so much!
@irishfarmart Жыл бұрын
Completely understand! I had the same issues at the beginning. Two things, the first is to be sure your ink is actually waterproof (sometimes inks are wrongly publicised by companies) and the second is to let it dry a little bit. Perhaps starting the painting from those lines drawn first in the process. Does that make sense?

Thank you for the video. What kind of waterproof ink did you use?

I use DeAteamentis document ink. It’s very black and really waterproof

I have a Lamy and it's faulty, there's something wrong with the ink flow. I was thinking of either getting a TWSBI Eco or the Sailor Fude. Which one do you like more in terms of ease of use? Which one has a better nib? I am scared that if I get the Sailor it will get broken and then I'll have another pen that doesn't work. 😅I do watercolour as well so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can’t go wrong with Twsbi. I got a couple and between them I surely recommend the ECO, with a medium nib (I find that the fine and ef nibs are too dry for my taste). That’s definitely a good, all purpose fountain pen…though the dude nibs are more fun 😅but a workaround that is to buy a spare n4 fuse nib and fit it into your twsbi. Disassembling them is super easy.

@@irishfarmart Thanks so much! What does a n4 fuse nib look like? I guess I'll have to Google it. :D

@mchlup ahaha unfortunately it’s your best bet. I just checked on Amazon they sell a pack of 5 for €12. But I am sure you can find other resellers as well! I would give it a try

do you have to clean out the waterproof ink, or do you find the pen still works weeks later?
@irishfarmart Жыл бұрын
I had no problems with the waterproof ink. The pen is sitting on my desk for quite some time and it seems to work fine. Although, I would definitely recommend a good clean of your fountain pens every now and then. @gouletpens has some good videos on how to do that properly

Sadly, The fountain pen is rarely used now. Great idea for sketching for obtaining variation in line thicknesses. P. S. I posted the link in the previous podcast comments, for the free knitting honeycomb blanket pattern.

Finally tried a Fude today. Frustratingly cannot get the ink to flow through it at all which is extremely frustrating, assuming it's faulty. Love the writing results on the thick side when dipping it in ink in a desperate attempt to try it out. The plastic cartridge is far too soft to squeeze when putting it in the pen, ink splatters everywhere. rubbish! So far, so disappointed. Love your picture though :)

Ohhh that’s very disappointing. What pen did you get if I may ask?

washing it with some dish soap? I know that Stephen Brown recommended it in one of his last Videos on fountain pen maintenance…you may want to give it a try?!
@MaryShelleysNibАй бұрын
@@irishfarmart Will definitely try it before giving up and returning it. I've only rinsed a few new nibs with water if they're black, never used soap as fearful of the chemicals. Will stop treating them like delicate princesses and get scrubbing 🧽🤣Thank you for the tip, will keep you 'posted' 🖋🤞

@@irishfarmart Happy to report you were right, a good rinse and much coercing has produced ink flow. Let's see if I can now pretend to have half decent writing. Merci Beaucoup and delighted to have just discovered your channel :)
