For anyone who doesn't think Rei/Usagi is canon, at least in the anime: read the English translations of Rei's character songs, specifically Eien no Melody and Watashi no Hito Gingahen. They are practically love confessions from Rei. Seriously. And then the subtext makes sense in the anime and in episode 54. She's surely not addressing Yuichirou here? :P

That's kind of the point. This is a shoujoai shipping amv. For a couple from a classic anime series that never became canon but damn as well should have. Yes, it's one of the reasons that it's my favorite of Rei's image songs. The other is that it just sounds absolutely awesome. Whether they are a couple or not stems from the fact that Rei is closest to Usagi. She also does a lot of things that we see in anime often in which the girl trying to protect the one they love makes a lot of sacrifices and hints. In the manga, supposedly she got with Minako bc they both love her that way but can't have her so they vow to stand by her forever instead.

It's been a while so I can't remember any scenes in the R season in particular but I've heard that Chibiusa seems to be the closest to Rei out of all the scouts so in a sense I think so. I wouldn't be surprised if I rewatched it again and saw that happening. Also I took a closer look at the English translations of Rei's song Watashi no Hito Gingahen and when I saw it I flinched for a moment because it really did ship them.

@RevolverLochness Oh, how ironic. I just finished the Makaiju arc and the R film, so I was going to begin the second half when I had the time. So far, Rei is practically acting like a house wife, and the first several episodes didn't really help. Also, she was pretty emotional with her in the R movie, and some lines she said when Usagi was in peril sounded like please don't take her away from me and I can't live without her. Also, does Rei ever act as a surrogate mom to Chibiusa?

That would be season R *spoilers* when Chibiusa is kidnapped by Rubeus. Usagi is at her house and she can only think about getting Chibiusa back and Rei tells her not to worry because they will get her back.
