It's a Japanese thing, given that hat's average for us is tall for them. For that matter, it's another level on the cultural thing, given that Mako-chan intimidates them not only by being taller than most of them, but her previous reputation as a delinquent and brawler, most unaware of her softer aspects. And the fact that until Stars, where she finally got a uniform of her size, she wore her old uniform, which unfortunately enforced that idea for those not in the know.

Galaxeko because it's just how some people interpret things. It's a nice gesture and sometimes people take enjoyment to put a romantic spin onto it. Plus the girls don't have any living breathing love interests in the show (besides Usagi, Chibiusa and Uranus and Neptune) that actually get a good fate with them, so it's easy for people to pair them up together as they probably don't want the senshi to be romantically alone in their heads.

A small normally-shy girlie bookworm confidently approaches the timid but normally confident tall physically-active tomboy. It's just too perfect a match to ignore. I am noticing a lot of tall related conments here and I thought I'd put things into perspective. From what I read online about her so far, Mako is listed as 5'6", and in Japan the average female height (according to google) is around 5'2" and males around 5'7". I can see why guys there would be intimidated by her height. The fact that her personality is different from what is considered normal there would also intimidate the other guys there as well.
