Episode 11 was one of my favorites, too! I had not thought of it like that, but you are absolutely right. It is the flashpoint where the dynamics of the show found its footing. I also think the battle scene with the Monster-of-the-Week was one of the better ones where we also got to see them combine their powers for the first time. Thanks for this!

Ahhhh you've completely transformed my perspective on this episode, I've always kinda skipped it in rewatches but I can see its importance now. Rei/Usagi is definitely one of my favorite parts of the 90s anime. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Happy to have given a new perspective! ^^ thank you for sharing your thoughts as well! Lol ^_^

If you don't watch it for the reasons mentioned in the video, then at least watch it for the yoma's head going into it's body and then slowly rotating out to no bg music. The most unsettling moment in the whole series (other than maybe the crucified Hotaru scene).

It's very telling how much Usagi loves Rei seeing as in that one particular Sailor Stars Episode of the original anime (spoilers) Rei is the last one of the Inners to go. Rei dies in Usagi's arms after explicitly protecting Usagi from Galaxia. When Ami, Makoto and Minako die Usagi begs them to not leave her, but when Rei dies it seems to finally sink in what happened to them and she's devastated.

I wish there had been a few more Usagi/Ami episodes before Rei was introduced. There's fifteen episodes between Rei and Makoto getting introduced, and eight or nine episodes later Minako gets introduced. I don't see why Ami got so little time before Rei was added compared to the others.

Rei actually was the writer's pet, and Ikuhara (Yes, Ikuhara same guy that created Utena) i believe had a crush on her. Some of the writers REALLY liked Rei, while Ami's later popularity comes from popularity polls and her being a role model for audiences. Theres a scene in the Princess Avademy episode where Rei dandes with a guy violently and he blushes, that's Ikuhara's self-insert, same hairstyle and everything he had when he was working on Sailor Moon

Sailor Moon in general seems to handle love triangles pretty maturely. I think Venus had a crush on a guy, then found out her crush loved her best friend. Venus is hurt but in the end fakes her death so her crush and best friend can live a peaceful happy life together.

"Venus fakes her own death" very mature indeed
@stephanos612820 күн бұрын
also not really mature when you think about Minako being 14 having a crush on liek a grown ass man. her immaturity as a teen is crucial to the decisions she made, if she was mature she'd know why this would never work (which she does in the end, she finally "grows up" in a sense but not for the right reasons still, showcasing her being a teen. if she was truly mature and adult the reason would be he's a grown ass man.) but a mature person would also communicate her feelings to them both. not dissappear from their lives via a death- leading to massives amount of guilt and trauma for not only her crush (ruining her chances with him if there ever was one, which... no), but also for her big sister figure.

Episode 11 was actually the first episode of Sailor Moon I ever saw, in the DiC dub. It just perfectly showcased what the series had to offer, and I became fully invested.

I found you through your Sailor Uranus and Neptune videos and now I'm curious if you ever plan to talk about the Sailor Starlights and their presentation in both the anime and manga.
@AquaMarina3699 ай бұрын
I might actually now that sounds like an interesting sort of thing to compare ^^ It's always been interesting to me how the starlights were pretty extraneous in the manga and Kakyuu lasted longer while in the anime it was the complete opposite, I might make that now thank you for the question/suggestion ^^

Rei IS THE FIRE! and i love it! Esp in the old anime version. In crystal Rei is basicly non-existant. I rly hope for a true dark version of live SM on netflix XD

Rei and Usagi's relationship is one of the best things about 90s Sailor Moon. While I don't want to disrespect the the OG manga Crystal suffered from losing that. It has no heart in comparison to the 90s adaptation imo.

Nightmare in Dreamland I remember this thought Freddy Kruger would make a cameo lol but since it's a kids show that's going too far

Crystal definitely took liberties, they undermined the impact of Sailor Moon defeating Metalia by having her power not be questionable compared to her allies. Sailor Moon only ever defeated underlings and stopped (but didn't slay) Zoicite. Having the generals survive took away from showing the strength of the senshi and it feels like Takeuchi's humour didn't get adapted to being as funny on screen as it was in panel. Back to what your video is about imma drop a Dic dub quote: "I agree completely."
