The 20th edition of the Taiwan Ryukyu Regatta was launched Sunday morning in Keelung. Participants had to sail to Keelung Islet, circle it and turn back. On Monday, participants will head out to Japan’s Ishigaki Island. Many spectators came for the annual race and tried to capture the beauty of Keelung with their cameras. Let’s hear from a spectator and a sailor.

Seeing so many sailboats competing in such an event in my hometown, in the waters I am familiar with, gives me quite a special feeling. I’m very happy and a little touched.

What’s most special is that we will cross the border into another country, from Taiwan to Japan, and we can also meet friends from different places and come into contact with different cultures.
A total of 242 sailors from nine countries and regions including Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, and Canada, are taking part in this year’s race. Thirty sailboats first set out from Bisha Fishing Port to Chaojing Bay, and then sailed out to Keelung Islet, which they had to circle before returning. A bazaar made up of coffee stands and food trucks was also set up, offering visitors food and drinks on top of the beautiful scenery of the seaside.
