Can’t you come up with some kind of rivet so you don’t have to drill through the fabric back protection? I’d buy it, but don’t want bolts in my back..

I just installed one on a softshell harness. When you tighten the bolts down, they squeeze the padding so hard that the bolt heads are below the surface of the surrounding padding. It won't touch your body. Additionally, the bolts are pan head (rounded). Didn't notice the bolts at all and it felt like the same harness after installation.

Great concept. To echo the other comment, what about replacing the 4 individual bolts with a lightly padded single assembly with the same bolt pattern (with the bolt heads shield beneath the padding)? You would just hold the assembly in place to secure the nuts, instead of using a screwdriver.
