Columbus didn't discover central America, he discovered islands off central America and the closest he go to the mainland was when he set foot of the Island of Cuba, in the Caribbean Sea. St. Brendan, on the other hand, I do believe, reached North America with his monks. The journey of Tim Severin, using the Chronicles of St. Brendan as a guide, proves that to me.

In the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza in the Yucatan, there is a painted mural that dates to around the year 900 AD. The mural shows white people with their hands tied behind their backs being led by brown people. Presumably, it shows that the Mayans had, at some point, captured white men.

Yes apparently so for Columbus. I'm convinced Brendan arrived in what is now known as Newfoundland.
