Saint Kateri and Native American Catholics

November is Native American Heritage Month. An estimated 25 percent of Native Americans are Catholic, but there are also longstanding tensions between the Catholic Church and some indigenous tribes. Early missionary efforts were often tied to colonization and its devastating effects on native cultures. For some Native Americans, their complicated relationship with the Catholic Church is symbolized in its first Native American saint, Kateri Tekakwitha. Managing editor Kim Lawton visits the annual Tekakwitha Conference to ask Native Americans what Saint Kateri's legacy means to them.

One should not forget that Kateri Tekakwitha converted to Catholicism BEFORE Vatican II, way back in 1676. She accepted the Catholic Faith for what it was then. She had no problem with the view of the Church on nature and man's relationship with it. She would not have felt the Church needed to change. Men, on the other hand, are always in need of change and sanctification. There will always be people in the Church who do not represent what It teaches and who sin against God and His people. This is what happened to the Native Americans when their lands were stolen and they were persecuted. Evil men did this, and it had nothing to do with Catholic Church teachings. Jesus would never have allowed this. We must always keep in mind that humans are flawed and inclined to sin. We must never base our beliefs on the actions of men, but on the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Traddy Mom, Veronica, I need your help.. please pray for me as I am planning a meeting in my children’s school regarding this specific subject with natives and Catholicism ❤️❤️🙏🏻. I would home school if my husband agreed, but I realized perhaps Christ is calling me as a messenger for the children here. The anti Catholic bias in our CATHOLIC school is astounding. Native Americans call the Holy Spirit the GREAT SPIRIT, There is a real spiritual connection.

The Jesuist missionaries have brought these terms to Native Americans in order to have them understand who was the God they were revealing to them. The concept of "Great Spirit" originates in the teaching of the Catholic Church meant to help indigenous people welcome what their culture already contained. It was how St Paul managed to teach gentiles when in Greece, talking about the Unknown God.

Those condemning the Roman Catholic church. A church that has existed for over 2000 years even with demonic possessed Popes and priests. Most priests are good, the majority by the way. Even St Ignacious stated he would take the Eucharist by an evil priest then to be swayed by demons not to. Jesus is powerful as he stated to Peter: And I say also unto thee, "That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." His words are still true. One HOLY Roman Catholic Church existing through all that is evil. Still here. If that isn't proof of what Jesus founded I do not know what is!. Read the history before making judgements. 2000 plus year old Catholic Church that has existed through divine intervention versus 4000 plus Protestant denominations that take passages out of the Bible and are so confused and bicker with each other. Any insults to the Roman Catholic church should be ignored. Oh ye of little faith guided by demons. Watch your tongue.

We haven't touched on the saints in RCIA as of yet, but I've skipped ahead in the saints and a few other fascinating subjects. I enjoy the Saints. One day we will talk about our stories of being alive in this day and age with everything going on. Jesus will come and explain it all. Most Catholics are in love with Jesus. 💓💞💒💞💓 and we are to bring Christ into the world daily after the celebration of the Holy Mass. Jesus said He would be with us..and He kept and is still keeping all His promises.

What people forget is that Christianity is not a European faith. It originated in the part of the Middle East called the Levant, from Israel and Palestine. Nowhere near Europe.

Kateri had to escape New England and flee to Canada to avoid becoming a martyr. My paternal grandmother also died very young as she died when my dad was only 4 and her name was Alida Castagnier of the Agnier people. Natives would die very young when they had to live among white people. My dad was born in 1917 and died in April 2000 and had a great devotion to Mohawk traditional ways and would bring me to Caugnawaga as a kid. The forced assimilation performed by the church and ordered by the governments was a sin against humanity. ⚜♾♾🌲♾♾🍁🐺

Is there a direct connection between Saint Kateri and the Bigfoot &other cryptids? I know that she was known for leaving homemade crosses out in the forest; Whenever I go hiking in the deep forest I see alot of X's and tridents that are followed by large, medium and small wooden structures. Saint Kateri must have been well aware of the writings St. Francis of Assisi also. He had the supernatural abilities to communicate directly with all of the wildlife. I know St. Kateri was the patron saint of the Environment and holistic healing. So somekind of connection to St. Francis of Assisi may not be too far fetched in theory. He could have been her spiritual mentor.

My son Anthony has refused Dialysis since he was born crippled and can not do anything physical only high intelligence and speaks. He stop being Catholic and is Christian Non Denominational.
