I too cried at the destruction of the churches and icons. St. Luke pray for the church, the bride of Christ. Holy God, Holy Almighty, Holy Immortal have mercy on us.

It is indeed difficult to watch the destruction of the churches and icons... in 1999 I visited Russia as a child, and although I was around 8 or 9 I remember seeing many old churches left in ruin. They are restoring them and even building new ones today!

As hard as it is to see churches and icons burn then and now in some countries, our consolation is that God wants our hearts. The church is us

What sticks out even more than the suffering he endured, is the faith he kept in Christ and how much he did for Christs sake, it towers well above the awful suffering he endured. That's amazing. Glory to God!!

Thank you very much for a wonderful documentary! As a Russian person, I have only one peace of criticism / suggestion: The song that is played at the beginning on the documentary is know as Voyna Svyashenaya (Holy War) and was written during WW2. In Russia and other Russian speaking countries it is associated with the great horrors of WW2 and efforts to overcome fascism, and has a dear place in the memory of the people. Not to say that the communist regime was without its horrors (as this documentary shows), but I think this particular song is not the best one to use when describing prosecution of Orthodox Christians and destruction of our temples by the bolsheviks. It makes no sense neither chronologically nor thematically. I appreciate that the makers of the documentary might not have known this. Otherwise, great job. God bless you!

Thank you for your constructive comment. I think that when I placed that piece of music, it was more for the sound and the feeling it gives the audience rather than whether or not it's historically accurate. Perhaps it's different for me since I am not Russian and don't have those sorts of historical sensitivities, but for me, since the song fit so well from a musical perspective and that it was a soviet anthem of sorts, I might have ignored (or didn't realize) that it was music that had nothing to do with the rise of the bolsheviks. But I had no idea that it had sentimental value for Russians. Thank you for informing me; I am glad you enjoyed the film regardless. God bless

Unbearable to see the beautiful churches and icons burned even if it had happened long ago. Sadly the same thing happened to churches recently when daesh had control in Iraq and Syria and as it happens in Egypt when churches are burned or closed with the excuse the police cannot secure them 😢

I noticed this was age restriced. On one hand, I understand why, the scene where men were being hanged. On the other, do we not know there were children witnessing those purges? Our country here in the U.S., and indeed around the world, has become not just sensitive but hyper sensitive to the point of.... denial.... that evil exists. I am not saying to let small children watch such scenes, but I am saying they need to be taught, and yes at a certain age, of these evils. Because, brothers and sisters, those times are not just coming again, but they are HERE, and they are NOW. Christians are being hanged every day around the world, slaughtered like animals. Children need to know that. And when they are a bit older, yes, to see what evil does. That way they are able to fully comprehend the evil that is consuming our world, and the extent to which it goes to utterly destroy those it hates.

One thing you forgot. Almost everything was happening in Ukraine not in Russia.
@Trisagionfilms7 жыл бұрын
At the time that these events took place the region of Crimea was with out a doubt a Russian province. Saint Luke considered the Tzar his sovereig. I realise that today there is tension between Ukraine and the Russian federation but if we are speaking historically Crimea is a Russian region. The place where the Rus were baptised and so on and so forth. We are only stating historical fact and not ideology here, so please if you can't look beyond modern regional conflicts and the emotions that come with that please don't respond. Thank you
