Hey folks. Was really surprised when I got up this morning to see how well this production did compared to my others. Seems I'm not the only one unhappy with this reboot. Glad to see there's a lot of other true fans of the series still kicking. As for the reboot, no, my mind won't change regardless how large the map is, how many weapons there are, how smooth the gameplay is, or whatever other nonsense will no doubt be revealed from here to the games unfortunate release. Saints Row, as a franchise, is more than the sum of its parts: it's a feeling, just as much as it is a game. That feeling died with the announcement of this reboot. You either get it, or you don't. If you don't, you'll find what I say in this baffling and leave confused. If you do, you'll know exactly what I mean.

Saints row is a dead franchise and has been for along time. Saints row was a gta clone in the early 2000s and never could compete with grand theft auto. Sure ur a fan and some people are but most fans are gta fans when it comes to gangster open world sandbox. Just because the new game doesn't have ur favorite characters will not make it a bad game. Ur clearly judging it off of a cgi trailer. If the game is fun who cares about all that extra shit. Ur missing the point of the reboot. A reboot is when a franchise starts over fresh. Its been too long to bring the old characters back. Age licensing etc etc. U may not enjoy it but some people will. U say this now but your the type of person to trash on it and will still buy it. Sure the trailer looked like garbage but after seeing gameplay and all the stuff u can do. I could care less about the story line. It looks like a fun game.

I'm sensing a pattern with these "Reboots" -Reboot a game series that has long been abandoned or needs a refresh -hire a bunch of new people to make the reboot who hate the OG games and hate gamers -Release a Trailer for the game that is completely out of touch with what fans of the original series want -OG fans proclaim their dislike of the new direction the game is going and say they won't be buying it -Developers and people who are shilling for the new game harass and insult the OG fans. -the Reboot comes out -Shills don't actually buy the game bc they were never interested in the game in the first place -Game fails to sell well and tanks the companies stock - Publisher decides to pull the plug on the studio and the Franchise is effectively killed for good. In some cases a Spiritual successor is released and out sells the reboot. It's all so tiring

A lot of this sounds like what happened to Devil May Cry, the only real difference I can see is that DMC is still alive and more popular than ever due to DMC5, so DMC Devil May Cry just gave room for the true Devil May Cry experience to rise from its grave and say "jackpot". I hope for Saint Row fans that this goes the way of DMC and not something like Bionic Commando, although I'm expecting it to go the way of Bionic Commando

Another interesting point is that on PC, this game is going to be an Epic store exclusive on release so it's probably safe to say that at least some of the development costs have already been recouped by the exclusivity deal. They just don't care.

See what most SR Reboot defenders don't understand is the feeling of waiting 8 years for a new game akin to Saints Row 1 & 2. When you say more "grounded" then you perceive the conception of SR1 & SR2. If only the wording from the devs was actually more clear and if they were a bit more specific what type of Saints Row they want to go back to then most fans could not get mad at the devs. Instead, they cash grabbed on nostalgia of the older fans to generate hype only for it to fail. Fans of the OG series understandably got upset at what they watched not because of the gameplay, but because of stylistic choice of the game and characters/story itself. I hope people don't forgot that story is an integral part of Saints Row since the first game and has only recently being turned into crap around SR4 with all the whacky stuff. When you wait 8 years for the next installment (not counting Gat Out Of Hell) and for this reboot to make its first impressions like this, you only riled up fans more. And lets say that somehow and someway, God Of War went MIA for the next 10+ years and the devs of that game announced a teaser and a confirmation of a reboot. Ok, cool and you hype up fans and start conversations through different social medias and announcing the trailer coming out this year. Once the trailer comes out it shows off Kratos wearing cat lady glasses and looking more cell-shaded with a different VA. Kratos' personality is less serious and the atmosphere is more vibrant. The enemies look like it all came out of a Banjo game and the other characters are just quirky and random. At the end you see it says God of War in bold titles, but indicating its a reboot of it. Imagine if that's how GoW trailer started if it ever get a reboot. Fans would definitely be pissed, but game journos would be like "gameplay is pretty good and reminds me of the older titles." So what? Just because it reminds you of GoW does not mean it is GoW in a sense of capturing the atmosphere and characters, which are equally fundamental to a game's identity. I can see where the OG Saints Row fans are coming from because they wait 8 years for a new installment to just hopefully go back to the roots of the game. I wish all the best for new fans interested in the SR Reboot, but for fans of the OG Saints Row games I understand that pain especially how a franchise just neglects what makes aspects of the game great in the first place.

I think some fans should have stopped harping up on SR1 & 2. Saints Row 1 was good to me only in it's time frame when it came out, it was the first next gen Sandbox game, when GTA franchise were still on the previous consoles, and had an interesting story plot. But SR1 is dwarfed by SR2 which is largely considered by many to be the best in the series. SR3 they up the ante improved the graphics, the game took on a more Fast and the Furious type approach, and the missions I'm replaying on PC 10 years later I'm finding some much harder than when I played them on 360 back in the day. SR4 took the game to a whole different level with the Saints becoming government leaders, and then the world get taken over by an alien race. The game to me is a pure parody of a lot of cinema tropes and to me just seemed like the series took at sick back for more funny humor but still keeping it's violent/edgy content. I think too many people pushing for a SR1 & SR2 which IMO would be the series going backwards was dumb. I rather they brought they used the same established SR crew and made a 5th series, with a new story plot that undoes some of the events that happened in SR4 added more interesting missions, best of all after a near decade hiatus, I expected the franchise to come back with a whole up-to-date graphical look. Sadly we're getting none of this, just a poor 3D looking game with a weird looking cast and are using the Saints Row name. This game will fail, and rightfully so.

Not a Saints Row fan, but I’m more fan of both Descent and Red Series, about Volition stuffs you pointed out, you’re right, Volition doesn’t care about gamers, community or freedom of creativity. @@MichaelJP Don't give a fuck? Don't bend their knee? Sorry to break it to you... But they do. You might've heard about it, but there was this DLC planned for GTA Online called "cops and crooks". The reason people believe that are leftover files from the game, with icons, as well as text prompts. But Rockstar scratched that. Why? Because of George Floyd. I'm thinking DLC might come out in future years but they decided that now is not the time (I'm not trying to undermine Floyd's death, or blame DLC cancellation on it, I'm trying to draw a point). And it wasn't the first time. Going back as far as to GTA 3. Game came out couple of months after 11'th of September, which was a bit after planned release. During that time, Rockstar was considering cancelling the game as a whole. Eventually, they cut out alot of content from the game (school buses, bunch of commercials, one of which mocked joining the army, and the character of Darkel, who had ordered you several terrorist attacks, one of which involved flying a plane into the building. Jesus, talk about foreshadowing). The colours of the cop cars have been changed so that they don't resemble that of NYPD. And years later, Rockstar told exactly why they did that (even though it doesn't take a genius to figure it out) - they didn't want people to perceive them as a devil. They didn't want to be disrespectful to people who died there. Truth be told - the reason you think Rockstar never gave a fuck is because media painted them out to be. They were never as bald as you thought they were, you just fell for media's stigma. They always gave a fuck, you just didn't notice.

This vid very much educated me, as being a saints row fan since the third in 2011 & went back to play the first two i gotta say, 2 was the best of them all in my opinion. Maybe i am being to optimistic about this reboot and should understand not to just take in anything that they give us, as this is clearly what they did here especially after you explained the marketing method that they are potentially doing by pleasing these new aged fortnite/watch dogs svj audiences while trying to expect og fans to be okay with it. Thanks for informing, i just really hope & pray that they can at least revamp the story because as you say, gameplay could be top notch but story could be shit & saints row’s story is initially what is so loved about it. 💜

Watch dogs used to be more serious than whatever WD2 was supposed to be. Watch Dogs clearly understood what technology means in today's world and emphasised it at many points. Tbh, it didn't go beyond the individual life of Aiden Pierce and his story. But atleast it knew what perils this new level of integration held, and hinted at it in the larger cityscape (like those CTOS videos that you uncover). 2 just felt so damn weird. Like as if not being able to tweet for a day is suddenly the same grim reality as some one knowing your deepest dark secrets and silently watching over you the entire time. US is going to shit. Not because of SJWs or the Proud Boys, but because it takes social issue far less seriously and tries to 'meme' out everything. It's funny when done right, but that's it. It doesn't solve the problem. Make a million memes a day, and nothing will ever change.

The only thing that worries me about the reboot flopping or not is Volition potentially going under (mainly because I don't think they are in a place to take another loss after AOM) and the Saints Row ip being shelved, then we would never have a chance at those coveted SR1/2 remasters. But at the same time if the reboot is successful that is 100% the route they will follow for future installments for the foreseeable future, and who is to say that under current circumstances that they won't want to change some things during the remastering. Just sucks it has to be this way. /:

House Hexagon, you should definitely research the Devil May Cry reboot, DmC from 2013, and see how its developer, Ninja Theory, bashed the fans and the original property whenever it could during the marketing period and how well that worked out for them. It is strikingly similar to what's happening to Saints Row, and being a hardcore DMC fan, I immediately recognized the behavior. It was also done after the 4th title, and, would you guess it, we got a real DMC5 after the reboot flopped.

Volition like many video game developers can not make multiple games based on one property or story beyond one game. As those who made it usually do not plan beyond the second or even first game at all or they can't hold onto those that were making it. This happened with Mass Effect and Dragon Age. With many other game series having the same damn problem. They just need to make new games using refined versions of their gameplay elements and not focus on their attempts of "branding." Since they can't ever keep it consistent.
