Saipan absolutely slaps in top tier games. She has very high alpha and damage capability. Add that to her planes also reasonably enduring T10 games, she's my go to pick for T8 CV.

its not the ship, it's the MM. You'd need battleships players who probably doesn't know what steering is, and you need your team to be beaten by that team.

The saipan could probably have steered away if he wanted to. Probably both of them determined it wasn't worth the effort, they did need to stick together for AA anyway.
