Αctually the only person closest to Saitama is my boy Garou. He gets stronger and stronger by each day and I think the writer does it on purpose to make it difficult for us to guess who would win of the two. These two are my favourite characters so I hope no dying from neither sides. Meteoric burst, the attack that surprised Saitama, was the strongest attack that any non-Saitama character in this show is capable of. The last Roaring Cannon attack was just a last ditch effort by Boros, but Meteoric Burst would've wiped out anyone and anything that's not Saitama.

Because Boros was so much stronger than any opponent Saitama faced before that Saitama didn't know how much power was needed to kill him, so basically he was increasing his power in each punch until Boros went into Meteoric burst mode where he had to go into serious mode or else Boros would have wiped the planet clean.

Honestly felt bad for Boros in the end. Saitama didn’t even hit him with the Serious Punch - he hit him with the SHOCKWAVE from his punch. You can see how far away Boros was from Saitama when he got hit. Meaning Boros could clearly see (as he says) Saitama had strength to spare. “It wasn’t even a battle” is so heartbreaking when you realize Boros has been searching for the ultimate combatant, but he was probably expecting someone more equal to his power level. Saitama was so far beyond his strength that the battle was basically done out of pity for Boros. Imagine being almost on a godlike power level, wiping out entire planets, raging across the universe - only to get swatted like a fly in your final battle.

Remember, Saitama isn't one punch man because he HAS to beat everything with one punch, but because he CAN beat everything with one punch. He could have finished Boros with 1 punch if he'd done a serious punch at the start, but Saitama always holds back. Boros is technically the 4th person who survives a punch in the series. Saitama slaps Sonic into the pavement, he slaps the hero instructor into the pavement, and he punches away hammerheads armor (and gives Genos a little lovetap). Of course, he wasn't really trying to kill them, he was holding back, but he was holding back with Boros as well, the difference isn't that Boros can handle a punch by Saitama, it's that Boros could handle a stronger punch than anyone else so far. He's still one punch man. When he punched Boros that last time, he went from full hp to dead in 1 punch. And Saitama still had more strength if he wanted to,

Saitama knew Boros was stronger than all the monsters he ever faced. After all he did survive 2 normal punch attacks, a consecutive normal punches attack, and even Boros was still alert after a serious punch. Boros was strong and Saitama knew it, and I think Saitama respected him, cause that never happened before where anyone could actually survive. He I think was kinda testing it out too, cause he never faced someone that strong before. It's like a lone lv 99999+ bored vs a bunch of lv 5's and 10's maybe a 200 or 400 every day, but they are all easily one shotted. Most S classes being around 500 give or take. But boros was like a level 1900, no challenge at all to him, but still something of a impressive feat to behold for Saitama, where you punch once and the opponents health bar goes down by only 1/4th. And, I'm sure Saitama may have felt some form of very small dmg from the meteoric burst attack. Which is surprising to him, thus the surprised expression on Saitama's face. He isn't really trying though the whole thing, but I know he found Boros interesting, and respectable. For Saitama to say he was strong, that means ALOT coming from him. (Btw just a side thing what I think, Goku is like a 800lv base form to 3400 lv when at peak form Ultra instinct currently I believe, but in his abilities they lack, a consecutive normal punches would obliterate him I think cause he doesn't have the regen ability Boros has naturally. If Goku did ultra instinct though and Saitama did consecutive normal punches after Goku achieved that form, Goku would dodge them all. But then Saitama would do serious consecutive punches and I'm certain it would be over right there)

And Saitama is twice as stronger than Hulk and he would do the same too, plus I didn't just mention the force of clapping hands I mentioned other ways of theoretically coming back down.
