If you think about it, the meme isn’t that far from the original meaning of “I’m So Happy to Be Back Home,” performed by Eduard Anatolyevich Khil. The man is expressing pure joy because he’s returning home, but let’s not kid ourselves - such a return can only be genuinely happy if the place he’s leaving behind is worse than the home he’s returning to. His happiness is tinged with a disdain for the things he’s abandoning. Would he really feel that joy if what he was leaving was worth sticking around for? It’s almost as if his elation is a silent condemnation of the world he’s escaping. And then there’s the performance itself - no words, just pure emotion. Khil tells an entire story without uttering a single lyric. That’s the beauty of it: an international language that transcends barriers. It’s raw, visceral, and undeniably powerful. This isn’t just a song; it’s pure art. No wonder it became the anthem of winning online, AKA trolling. It perfectly encapsulates that triumphant feeling of leaving behind the mundane or the unbearable while celebrating the joy of returning to something better. So, yes, it’s a win - both in its emotional impact and its cultural resonance. The meme and the original song share a common thread: they both evoke a profound sense of liberation and disdain for mediocrity. That’s a victory worth celebrating, even in a satirical context.

@LudiusQuassas2 жыл бұрын
@@Youssef-kx4cd It's hard to say, translating titles from russian is a bit difficult without automated translation, and that usually gives you mixed results. However, if you want to get familiar with his catalogue (which are usually russian standards), I would recommend you the following sessions/concerts (please note that you can search them in the channel by year, usually): - His tribute to Arkady Ostrovsky, 1976; these are the infamous sepia videos that made him viral. These videos are lipsyncs of his biggest '60s hits (studio versions) composed by Ostrovsky. Including (translated) Moonstone, Lumberjacks, When the Steamboats Sail ("vada, vada"), Waves, etc. All of these are pretty great. - His "Mister Trololo" 2010 TV special, where he performs modernized versions of his hits. I think it's a mix between studio versions and live performances. Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5vJiKCaeb-kZ6M - His "Khil and Prepinaki" live concert in 1996, where he collaborates with a rock group to once again modernize his catalogue, pretty bizarre and fun! Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rV6TpKuNa7-feLM - His 1984 concert, he sings live. As usual, you can find it by looking for the year on the official channel. - His "Romantica Romansa" live concert in Christmas eve, 2011. This is his last big concert before the intended 2012 world tour, amazing performances by a 77 year old Khil. Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGLSY6Ole7t8ZqM Although for mysterious reasons, the official channel deleted most of the videos from here. As for individual songs, it's a bit hard. I would recommend to translate the titles to get a notion of what they mean in russian, although I like 'Winter' ("Зима", especially the 1970 and 1971 versions) and Moonstone ("лунный камень", pretty much every version you stumble upon). Although, pretty much all of his catalogue is killer given his excellent delivery. There are some music videos from 1979 of other lesser known songs, too. I hope this helps you, regards.

Original version performed by Eduard Khil, with music by A. Ostrovskiy. English lyrics written and performed by Edward Evans. Lyrics: Home, coming home No more hesitating Glad I'm coming home, coming home Where my love is waiting I felt that I wanted the freedom to play, left you for to roam I see it was wrong now for me to have strayed and I'm coming home Coming home, where my love is waiting When I was away far from all that I knew, all afraid and alone Know that every day I would call out for you, wanting to go home Now I'm coming home Coming home No more hesitating Glad I'm coming home, coming home Where my love is waiting Now I realize what I need's not out there: and I should have known Now I see where I need to be and declare that I'm coming home Home, coming home No more hesitating Yes I'm coming home, where I'm so very glad that I find That my love is waiting Didn't think you'd let me return to the nest from which I had flown Not a chance and yet now I learn I've been blessed And I'm coming home And I'm coming home And I'm coming home And I'm coming home And I'm coming home! Home, coming home No more hesitating Glad I'm coming home, coming home Where my love is waiting I felt that I wanted the freedom to play, left you for to roam I see it was wrong now for me to have strayed and I'm coming home.

I just want people to think about the fact that once upon a time, this was just pure and innocent entertainment. People were watching this like you would watch a movie or TV show or anything else. Just unironically enjoying the performance. Then the 2000s came and people found a way to enjoy it in a whole new ironic and comedic way, but it was still being appreciated for what it was and the new story it was given. And now, we're at a point in our society where people can't even appreciate it because this is too long for our short and measly attention spans. Ruminate on that and really analyze whether things are getting better or worse.

This song shows both the power of Soviet censorship and the creativity of the artist who wrote the song. The arts were heavily censored including music. Lyrics were so heavily limited it was clear no one knew what could or could not pass censorship. That's where a song like this is so clever. Okay, you want to censor? Censor this, a song with no words. How can you censor a song that has no words? That's the beauty behind it and a display of how ridiculous censorship had become.
@MartaNB6 жыл бұрын
Do you really believe this? Yeah, it looks romantic, but it's never been ))) I guess the problem was in text that never existed. I'm russian, russian is my first language, I speak, think and breath in russian.. sooooo, I can't imagine any russian text for this music. But the legend of censorship looked more romantic, I agree))) FYI - your beliefs in "bloody mordor" are ridiculous for those who lived in there. (I was born in 1970))))

Edward Hill himself said that the song had no lyrics because of the fear of censorship. Originally the authors had the lyrics about an American cowboy returning home. But because of concerns that it would never pass the censorship they decided to not use any lyrics. You can check his interview to Gordon.

This resurfaced years ago. All I can say watching it now - as a performer, a father and a husband - is that I too have had to do some ridiculous things to put food on the table. Rest in Power
