I have bad experience booking hotels in Mecca thru agents. Unfortunately, the agents from Pakistan and Saudi keep you bounced back and forth among themselves. The Saudi agent specifically lacked any emotion or good support. They either lied or misguided. They write a pretty nice hotel name on the package and mention "similar hotel". This is where they play the game with you and try to give you an unexpected lousy and cheap place. I ended up booking my own hotel directly after so much frustration with them.
