I've gained a much greater respect for jazz after having seen this anime. Now whenever I listen to jazz, I think of the wonderful, artistic adventure that this show took me on. Sakamichi no Apollon is definitely my favorite anime of all time, even more so than FMA...although I love them both almost just as much :).
@HeavilyCaffinated9 жыл бұрын
I get you! But since I'm in a jazz band my self (jazz guitar, in some jazz If you listen you can kind of hear the muted sound of a guitar) I've always loved jazz and that's why I love this anime. If you listen to jazz now please I recommend April in Paris by Count Baise or The Miner Goes A-Muggin by Duke Ellington or Corner Pocket by Count Baise!!! Trust me friend!!!!! All of those are great and in this anime they name a lot of jazz legends (i.e John Coletrain, Chet baker) so please get back to me if you can!!
@FF5freak139 жыл бұрын
Cat Brum Hey there! Yes! I absolutely loved seeing all of the references to those jazz classics! I was part of a vocal jazz group last semester and we learned to perform some of these :D I will definitely check out those recommendations -- Duke Ellington is amazing!
@HeavilyCaffinated9 жыл бұрын
I'm really happy to hear that, a lot of kids today really don't like jazz. I happy that anime is turning some people to jazz! So I hope you like those recommendations!!!

+MelMuses I would highly recommend you listen to some later stuff, like bebop, hard bop, and post-bop. Ellington, Basie, Goodman, they are all great, and quintessential big band swing, but the charts they play are really just not that complex. Personally, I can't stand fusion, but you might enjoy it.

I personally like the atonal bent on the trumpeter's solo, especially considering the rooted association of Avant Garde Jazz with Far-left politics and the Loft sessions which frequently featured young, aspiring College musicians. It leads on a bit more about Jun's character than what was explicitly shown in the anime.
@rdldflwr7 жыл бұрын

I have just finished watching Kids on the Slope and I want to cry!!! I love the whole series, it is so warm in the feeling. I miss my friends, and it made me feel a longing for some friends that I never had. The array of the warm spectrum about love, friendship, family, and bromance... It gave me the same post feeling, the preoccupied feeling after watching the movie 5 centimeters per second. It has a lot of moral stories, about forgiveness, trust, having courage in life, and brotherly kindness. So good, very moving, and captivating.
