Battery from a petrol strimmer! 🙂 (Well, it might have a 12v one, like a car!). - - - I strongly advise you - and anyone else - to invest in a pair of kevlar cut-proof gloves when using any power cutting tool. They won't stop the saw if you put a finger into the blade, but they should save you from accidental nicks, such as Ross nearly just got!

The thing about the battery and plugin chainsaws I'm using is the chain does not move until you hold the safety switch in place and turn on the juice. And they stop instantly once I release the power switch. Safer than some of the two-cycle chainsaws I've owned.

I've been using a 10" bar GreenWorks battery powered chainsaw to cut firewood and I'm really happy with what it will do. I'm cutting up large limbs from a logging operation, stuff up to about 7" in diameter. I cut pieces about six feet long, what will fit in the bed of my pickup. Then I bring the load back to the house where I cut it to stove lengths with a Sun Joe 110 vac. electric saw. Overall It's almost as quick as doing the job with my Husqvarna Rancher 20" two-cycle chainsaw. With none of the noise, stink, and having to deal with fuel and starting. I've got some larger diameter oak to cut later and will have to use the Husqvarna for its longer bar. Looking forward to an affordable longer bar battery powered chainsaw option. Read reviews and buy the brand you think best. But for my money battery/plugin is a great option.

I see that 2 people have been arrested for cutting down that wonderful tree.
