Late blight in tomatoes caused by Phytophthora infestans It is a rainy season and most likely many tomato farmers will experience late blight. Are you one of those experiencing this disease? What is late blight? Favorable condition: ❗️ Rainy season ❗️ Too much moisture (soil and leaves) Signs and Symptoms ❗️ Affects the leaves, stem, and fruits ❗️ Lesions develop on leaves and stem as dark, water-soaked, and greasy spots, which enlarge until the stem or leaf turns brown to almost black ❗️ Infected fruits have brown lesions, remain firm and have a greasy, rough appearance ❗️ Whitish-grey sporulation on the underside of the affected leaves Management: ✅ Use disease-free seeds and seedlings ✅ Follow good planting distance to allow good aeration and light exposure. This prevents overcrowding that makes it easier for the disease to spread ✅ Use mulch (organic or plastic mulch) to avoid soil splashing to the plants during heavy rain ✅ Install trellis as early as possible, within 2 weeks after transplanting, to hold the plants upright providing good aeration and light exposure and to avoid direct contact with the soil ✅ Regularly monitor and scout for disease early in the day for early intervention and proper management ✅ Avoid excessive application of nitrogen and prolonged moisture/leaf wetness ✅ Preferably use drip irrigation (if available) to reduce the likelihood of splashing soil onto the plants ✅ Prune infected parts ✅ Spray preventive fungicides such as Copper-based fungicides and Mancozeb. Use curative once symptoms are observed like Azoxystrobin, Famoxadone, Cymoxanil + Mancozeb, Dimethomorph + Mancozeb. Ask local experts, when in doubt ✅ Alternate fungicides with different modes of action to prevent build-up of resistance ✅ Use a sticker to prevent the fungicide from being easily washed away ✅ Produce tomato in rain shelters, if available

Sa tingin ko po calcium deficiency yan. Spray calcium boron starts from vegetative stage at mag apply din ng calcium nitrate idilig sa halaman para po tumibay sa sakit. Tnx
