I think Harada really downplayed his opinion how he makes games. A game that he would like to play himself. That I think is the purest and the most honest way to create art and entertainment. Make music what you would like to listen, paint/draw pictures you would like to see, write poems/novels that you'd like to read, direct movies that you'd like to watch. The part of oneself that enjoys the thing that one has created, will be at least be clearly seen by others, why it is entertaining and amusing and most likely will resonate with your intended audience. Sometimes you can see the stuff that is just created to make money, lacks the essence, the soul to be an good creation. The gap of you start making something and the result you seeing that, this shizzle is gggooood can be sometimes a very hard hurdle to overcome and mind you, nothing will ever be "absolute perfect" in that sense, but when one captures that good, and expresses it to the world to enjoy it, it becomes something that transcends us from not being just animals.

Watching these episodes made me realize how much of a "ball and chain" Smash bros is to Sakurai. He can't have any fun and has to watch what he says/does at every turn, because of the smash crowd. Poor guy can't have fun and looks like he desperately needs to go on a vacation for this last round of DLC.

自分が楽しめないゲームをやる（なんで他人が面白いと思うか考察する）っていうのは確かにゲーム作るうえでは大事だけど、そもそもプレイできるのが凄いと思う。例えば格ゲーが楽しめないという人はそもそも下手な人が多くて、考察は出来るけど対戦の楽しみとかは感じる事が出来ない場合もあると思うので、あらゆるゲームの楽しみを考察できるっていうのはそこそこあらゆるゲームを出来ないといけない。 自分も実は昔ゲームプランナーをしていてそういう時はできる人に話を聞いたりネットの感想を調べたりしてたんだけど、そもそも年齢的に反射神経は落ちるし、頭も鈍くなっていったり3D酔いになったりもする。勝手なイメージだけど、多分桜井さんはそもそもゲーム全般的に上手いんだと思う。

As a computer scientist this makes me cringe, Absolute deterministic algorithms are infinitely better, 99% of AI solutions are silicon valley garbage. Keyboard driven design with something like a dactyl keyboard brings us 90% of the way there with practically no effort considering the benefits.

@@jac1011 You're trying to argue having a better keyboard will speed up your manual work instead of having an AI do the same task as you, faster, being able to produce multiple iterations for you to choose, under guided conditions and directives to achieve your vision? Please my dude bet on coding your deterministic algorithms by hand while I'll move on to having an AI reproduce gameplay mechanics by showing him footage and teaching it what I want. I'll also be having another AI to create meshes and animations based on stock footage, and applying styles from different existing art directions to speed up asset creation. I'll also be having AIs doing ad-hoc testing instead of wasting human time on trying to clip through every wall in the game and so on. Do not try to adapt at all when these tools arrive to help game development please. You are clearly in the know Mr Computer Scientist who cringes at the thought with your superior keyboard tech.

If a game has a mechanic, it uh, already has it programmed, having an AI replicate it through machine learning is at best unethical. Creating meshes and animation based on stock footage is also a deep misunderstanding and disrespect to the artistic process. Even COD is extremely opinionated and activision themselves hire people to do hand animation even though they have the technology to use ai. Like god damn reread your comment. And yeah OBVIOUSLY testing can be done with AI, (you cant write an algorithm for what you cant predict, thus : AI). You act as if im super out there and yet everything Im talking about hold true to the practises in the industry. Looks at Titanfall gun animation, hell, guilty gear strive is probably the best example of what im talking about. Decades upon decades of AI animation only gave us the atrocious horizon zero dawn which was shat on by even xrd using outdated tech. The whole motto of video game design is cleverness, which is how nintendo stays revelent despite the power of the ps5, it's how indie game stand out, it how literally every single part of the industry has happend. A game made by AI tools will result market researched game like the one popular today.

@@jac1011 No, my argument is let the machine do the redundant work so the artists can spend more time being creative and finding inspiration and innovating instead of wasting time on technicality. AI will produce what is asked of it. If a product turns out to be something generic nowadays, then it's the art director's fault, not the artist who made what was asked of him. Same will apply to AI tools. Also replicating gameplay mechanics across different projects from different companies because they don't share source code among competitors isn't unethical, the whole industry has been doing it for decades. You have to learn from the successes and mistakes of your peers or else you're gonna replicate them during development or even ship with problems that have been fixed by other devs.
