Al D'arco mentions in his book that the night Tommy disappeared he came to Gefkens Bar all dressed up for what he thought was a making ceremony. He left the bar with Bruno Facciola and Peter Vario and was never seen again. This was a long time ago, but something just returned to me that was forgotten. I was drinking with Tommy DeSimone, Anthony Stabile, and others. I said something insulting to Tom. I forgot what it was, but it wasn't in jest. It was rude. Tommy got mad and marched away steaming. Anthony later calmed him down. Looking back, this counters what everyone else says about him being a kill freak. Despite his history, Tommy still showed restraint. I was lucky. I don't remember if, or how much, we communicated afterwards. I was a straight kid and not involved with them. I just ran into them at a bar sometimes.

I saw the picture of him wearing the open shirt. That photo is intimidating, but he didn't look big or scary in real life. He looked like a FDNY member and could socialize easily. He could pass himself off as a legit guy. Tom was a follower. He seemed insecure and had others lead, guide, and steer him. The movie was right about him being a funny guy. @@godparticle1470 We watch movies to be entertained. We want to get scared or be humored. Some scenes are Hollywood dramatization to hold the audience. The scene at Atlanta prison was absolutely nonsense. I was a guest there (1976-'79) and never saw booze and lobsters or heard of that happening. Everyone wants me to say how dangerous Tom was, but I didn't see it. I knew he was a street guy but never realized he had a graveyard out there. He didn't seem like a kill freak. He could show discipline and be charming at times. A guy you wouldn't be uncomfortable hanging with. He had charisma somewhat like John Belushi had. Tom was a funny guy. He could tell jokes, funny stories, and have you laughing for hours. One thing never mentioned, his drug addiction was severe. In jail he was a whiner. No doubt I underestimated him. I don't think that pic you keep showing is Billy Batts. I could be wrong. But I believe that's Pat the Cat Spirito.

You do a good interview. If you haven't found them yet theres some wiretaps of Agro abusing Joe Dogs but Joe owed money. His people almost beat JD to death but someone walked in. Interesting stuff.

Sal didn’t live too far from Father and Son Barber Shop. Could you ask if he ever got his hair cut there by Tito or Frank? (Brothers Vito and Frank Scaglione? Did Sal ever have any dealings in the Liberty Cafe on Liberty and 84th- with Fat Andy, Irish Augie, or Tony Lee?

Yes… I got haircuts there… From Frankie & Tito
